Baboo & Mabel's Story
Meet Bamboo & Mabel, a pair of little rescue dogs whose paths crossed at exactly the right moment. Sometimes the universe has a funny way of bringing the right souls together, and that’s exactly what happened with these two.

Bamboo is a sweet, sensitive 1 and a half year old, 10-lb Yorkie / Chihuahua mix who was originally rescued from a small rural shelter in Texas after he and another dog were found wandering as terrified strays. Mabel is a darling 4 and a half year old, 9-lb Chihuahua / Min Pin mix who came to us from a shelter in New Mexico after being surrendered along with five other dogs because her previous family said they had “too many pets.”

Both Bamboo and Mabel were adopted from us after arriving in Colorado, but many months later life circumstances changed for both of their adopters, and the two little dogs unexpectedly found themselves back with Farfel’s.

Bamboo was returned when his adopter’s situation changed...she took a full time job and moved into an apartment, and Bamboo struggled with the long hours alone and the busy apartment environment. He’s a sensitive little dog who does best in a calm home with companionship, and the change proved to be too stressful for him.

Around the same time, Mabel was also returned. Mabel was the only dog in that home and became very sad when left alone, often crying when her person left the house. It quickly became clear that Mabel is one of those dogs who truly needs another dog companion in her life to feel happy and secure.

When both pups were unexpectedly returned to us around the same time months after their adoptions, they went back to a very familiar place, the home of the foster who had loved and cared for each of them before they were originally adopted. It was the first time Bamboo and Mabel had ever met, and something really special happened. Their bond was immediate, obvious, and incredibly sweet...almost as if they had been waiting to find each other all along.

They began following each other everywhere, playing together constantly, and snuggling up side by side for naps. Bamboo, who can be a bit shy and sensitive, (mostly just around men), absolutely blossomed with Mabel by his side. And Mabel, who had previously cried when left home alone, now stays loose in the house with Bamboo when their foster leaves and is completely content. No crying, no anxiety, no getting into trouble… just two best friends happily keeping each other company.

Their foster truly believes they were meant to find each other.

Bamboo & Mabel quickly became inseparable. They play together, nap together, follow each other around the house, and give each other comfort and confidence in new situations. What started as a foster pairing has turned into a deep friendship that has helped both dogs blossom.

Their foster shares the following:
* * * *
“Bamboo and Mabel have become incredibly bonded. They absolutely love one another and are helping each other become better dogs. They’re gaining so much confidence by being together and learning good behaviors from each other.

I’ve fostered them separately before, so I know their personalities well — and honestly, they’re so much easier and happier together.

Mabel was so shy and reserved when she first came home with me to foster, even with my little dogs around her. But once Bamboo came back into the home, she started to change. Now she runs around happily, greets everyone, and plays constantly with Bamboo and my other dogs.
They truly help each other in ways I never anticipated.

Bamboo is just the sweetest guy. He’s a sensitive little soul but a really good dog. He thrives in a calm home environment. Mabel is also just the sweetest girl.

Bamboo & Mabel are both fully potty trained and both walk well on leash. They both do not like to be crated, but they stay loose when I leave the house and they do totally fine left out. They both sleep in bed with me. Bamboo loves to burrow under blankets (especially warm ones from the dryer!).

Both Bamboo and Mabel get along great with other dogs, and Bamboo gets very excited and wags his tail so much when he meets new dogs. Both can be a little shy at first with new people, but they both warm up very fast.

We were told by Bamboo's previous owners that he is very afraid of men. That he would bark at men he encountered, and sometimes get so scared of men out on walks that he would piddle a little. Because something clearly happened in his past with a man, Farfel's got him an anxiety medication and this has really helped him regain his confidence! My neighbor, A MAN, even walked Bamboo and Mabel with me the other day and they did really well. I credit Mabel for helping Bamboo feel secure.
I still think he would prefer a female-only home, but he is figuring things out. :)"
* * * *

Because of something that happened in his past, Bamboo is not the biggest fan of men, as mentioned in his foster's bio above. While Mabel has helped Bamboo grow tremendously, (and Bamboo even surprised us all by happily going for a walk with the foster’s neighbor — a man — without barking or panicking), we still believe that Bamboo will do best in a female only home, whether that is a single female, or a female/female couple. He is most comfortable around women, and we want to respect that and set him up for success this time around.
It is also necessary that this adorable pair goes to a home with a fenced in yard.

Bamboo and Mabel have already been through more change than any little dogs should have to experience. But in the middle of that uncertainty, they found something truly special in each other. Now they’re hoping to find a forever home where they can stay together — playing, snuggling, and reminding each other every day that they are finally safe and loved.

Mabel and Bamboo are up to date on their vaccines and spayed/neutered. They have both been fully vetted and are healthy and heartworm negative.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pair. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
