Available - Willy's Story

Socialization/training: Willy gets along well other dogs. Willy does not chase the cats. He hasn't met a human he does not want to lick. We have not had Willy around small children. We are working on basic commands.

Crate trained: Willy is crate trained we call it his “house”. He was sleeping in the crate at night. For about the last month he has been sleeping with my son and made himself extremely comfortable.

Leash trained: Willy does well on a leash. He could use more leash time but it has been really cold outside.

Activity Level: Willy is a very typical setter! He would spend the whole day chasing anything that moves. He loves to be outside. We were told he lived on farm before he came into rescue.

Fence: Willy would do best with fenced yard. He has jumped over the 30-inch gate on the front porch from a standing position and cleared the four steps because he saw something he wanted to chase. He returned home before I could get the leash and treats and run after him.

Behavior: Willy loves being with his people. It did not take him long to become comfortable with the routine in our house. Willy is a love bug. Willy tolerates a bath, brushing, and ear cleaning. He is very interested in food but is not food aggressive.

Medical History: Previously, Willy had Lyme's disease but this was treated. He receives a monthly allergy shot (cytopoint). He is otherwise healthy. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Foster Comments: Willy is used to using a doggie door. He can be left alone but prefers to know you are in the house. He will be good with other dogs and would also be fine with cats.

Foster Location: Baltimore, MD

Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions.
