Austin's Story

Austin is an adult male terrier mix with a sensitive soul and a heart full of potential. This sweet boy is extremely skittish and easily overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of shelter life, but underneath that nervous exterior is a dog who is just waiting to form a deep, meaningful bond with his person. Austin is looking for a very specific kind of home—one that is calm, quiet, and predictable. Sudden movements and loud noises can be scary for him, so he’ll need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to move at his pace. Once he feels safe, Austin has the capacity to become incredibly devoted and loyal, forming a strong connection with his person that is truly special. He would do best as the only pet, as he’s not a fan of other dogs. Because of his sensitivities, Austin is also not a match for a home with children. An adult-only household will give him the space he needs to feel secure and thrive. Austin will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy. When he first arrived, his fur was severely matted and had to be shaved down, so his future family will need to stay on top of his grooming needs to keep him comfortable.<br/>With patience, understanding, and a gentle approach, Austin has so much love to give. If you’re someone who finds joy in helping a shy dog build confidence and blossom, Austin could be the perfect companion for you. Come meet him at Dessin, no appointment needed.

Dessin Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
Adoption: You need to submit an adoption application. The link is below. Once approved, we'll schedule an appointment. Spay and neuter: No pet gets adopted without being spayed or neutered. We're part of the solution to the pet overpopulation problem. Ten point behavioral assessment: A formal, ten point behavioral assessment is conducted on each dog to attempt to identify aggression or behavior problems, as well as to learn about the dog's personality. This helps us determine the best type of home for each dog/puppy.
