Austin's Story

They lost the only home they've ever known. Now they're trying to figure out what happened.

Today we picked up Austin and Queenie, two little sibling pups who have suddenly had their whole world turned upside down.

Their owner is currently undergoing cancer treatments, and their adult children simply aren't able to keep up with the number of dogs in the home. With heavy hearts, they made the decision to surrender a few of them.

Austin and Queenie are just 2–3 years old, Chihuahua mixes (possibly with some Pomeranian), and until today, they knew one home, one family, and the life they had always known.

Tonight, they are strangers in a strange place.

Queenie is taking the transition especially hard. She's incredibly shy, shut down, and understandably scared.

And sweet Austin? He's stepped into the role of protector. He's staying close, trying to be brave for his sister while everything familiar disappears around them.

Imagine being their size, losing your family, leaving your home, and suddenly finding yourself surrounded by unfamiliar people, smells, sounds, and a new foster home. They don't understand that they're safe yet. They only know that everything they knew is gone.

So tonight, we're giving them something they desperately need: time. Time to decompress. Time to feel safe. Time to realize that the people around them aren't going to hurt them. And, eventually, time for their personalities to emerge.

We know there's so much more underneath those frightened eyes.

Now we need your help to give them the soft landing they deserve.

Would you consider donating toward Austin and Queenie's care? They'll need good-quality food, yummy treats to help earn their trust, cozy beds, vaccines, deworming, spay/neuter surgeries, and all the other little things that help a scared dog begin to feel safe again.

And once they're ready, both will be looking for forever homes. They are not bonded and can be adopted separately, but if the right person or family came along willing to keep these two siblings together, we think they might find an incredible amount of comfort in having each other.

They've already lost so much.

Let's make sure what comes next is filled with kindness, patience, full bellies, soft beds, and the promise that they are safe now.

Please consider donating, sharing their story, or opening your home to one of these sweet souls. Every bit of support helps us give them the fresh start they never should have had to need.

Donate: https://denkaisanctuary.org/donate

PayPal Giving Fund: https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/2073123

Venmo: https://venmo.com/u/Denkai-AnimalSanctuary
