Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt Aussie before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs but we can recommend an excellent transport company.

*AGE: 4 years old (born April 2022)

*WEIGHT: 115 lbs. He would be at his ideal weight at 90-95 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required. No electronic/invisible fences, or e-collars will be allowed as we do not feel these would set him up for success.

*COAT TYPE: wavy, semi-coarse, low shedding coat. You should be prepared to brush him often and have him groomed regularly (every 8-10 weeks) with an estimated cost of $100/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium – enjoys activity but also settles nicely for downtime with his people. Aussie needs consistent daily exercise, including walks and active play such as fetch or tug. He is currently a bit overweight and will benefit from a routine that includes 30–60 minutes of activity each day to help him reach a healthier weight.

*DOGS: Yes – does well with other dogs, especially those that enjoy playful interaction. While Aussie does well with other dogs, he does not require another dog in his adoptive home. He is happiest when he has a human companion to spend time playing, walking, and bonding with.

*CATS: No – tends to bark and wants to engage, which is not well received.

*KIDS: Unknown – no direct experience, but his gentle and affectionate nature suggests he may do well.

*CAR: Rides well with no anxiety; would benefit from more exposure to build confidence.

*CRATE: Yes – crate trained but prefers to be out and near his humans when possible.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes – no accidents in foster care.

*LEASH: Yes – knows how to walk on a leash but can pull at times; would benefit from continued training.

*AT THE VET: Excellent – calm, friendly, and well-loved by staff.

* WITH GROOMING: Excellent – cooperative and well-behaved; groomer adores him.

Meet Awesome Aussie-Texas, a 4 year old male Labradoodle currently living in an IDOG foster home in Temple, Texas. This big, handsome boy weighs about 115 pounds and is working toward a healthier goal weight of 90–95 pounds, a goal he’s already making great progress toward thanks to increased activity with his foster family. He was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who loved him dearly but the owner had a major health issue and could no longer care for him.

Here is what Aussie's foster family has to say about him
Aussie is a big love bug with a gentle soul. He is affectionate and playful. He enjoys being close to his humans and will happily follow you around the house just to be near you. He has a fun, goofy personality and brings bright, happy energy wherever he goes.

Aussie is the definition of a gentle giant. He is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and playful, with a goofy personality that brings joy wherever he goes. Despite his size, he’s a total softie who loves attention and wants nothing more than to be close to his people. He’ll happily follow you from room to room just to keep you company, making him a true “Velcro dog” who thrives on connection and companionship.

With a medium energy level, Aussie enjoys a nice balance of activity and relaxation. He loves daily walks, games of fetch, and spending time outdoors. Once he’s had his exercise, he’s perfectly content to relax and nap at your feet. Because he is still a bit overweight, regular activity will be important to help him continue improving his health.

Aussie gets along well with other friendly, playful dogs and would do best with companions who can match his play style. However, he does not require another dog and would be perfectly happy soaking up all the attention as the only pet. He would not be a good fit for a home with cats, as he tends to bark and try to engage them in play. While he hasn’t had direct exposure to children, his gentle and loving demeanor suggests he could do well.

In the home, Aussie has wonderful manners. He is fully house trained, crate trained, and not destructive—he doesn’t counter surf or get into the trash. He rides well in the car with no anxiety and does great at both the vet and the groomer, where he is known for being calm and cooperative. On leash, he is still learning and can pull at times, but he is eager to please and has great potential with continued training.

Aussie loves toys of all kinds, especially squeaky ones (though they don’t last long!), and enjoys chewing on bones, playing tug, and exploring the yard. Like many doodles, he can be a bit of a messy drinker, and during play he sometimes forgets his size and uses his whole body—but it’s all part of his big, lovable charm. He will also bark to alert you when someone is nearby, making him a good big watchdog.

The ideal home for Aussie is one with a fenced yard and an active, loving family who has time to spend with him. He thrives when included in daily life and when he is given plenty of attention, play, and companionship. Whether it’s going for walks, playing fetch, or just hanging out together – he is happiest when he is with his people!

Aussie is an amazing boy who loves to play fetch, tug-of-war, walking, chew toys and bones, squeaky toys and meeting new people. He loves everyone he meets!

A few 'needs work' items for Aussie:
-Will bark to alert when someone is nearby or approaching the home
-Can pull on the leash and would benefit from continued training
-Messy drinker

Aussie is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He is heartworm and fecal negative and ready to find his forever home.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Aussie is ready to be your new best friend.

ADOPTION FEE: $500 adoption fee

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are very high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR AUSSIE-TEXAS, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application
