Meet Rory, an 11-year-old purebred dachshund weighing in at 27 lbs, with a gorgeous red, long coat and a whole lot of love to give.

Rory came to Little Paws as an owner surrender and she's settled into foster life as the happiest, most affectionate girl, content to nap the day away or cuddle up next to her favorite person. She may be picky about her food, but she is not picky about who she loves on.

Rory is fully potty trained and does best with access to a fenced yard. She's a low-key, low-energy girl who's happiest lounging around the house rather than out on adventures, and she uses a pen rather than a crate. She does have some separation anxiety and doesn't do well left alone for long stretches, so she'll thrive with a family who can offer plenty of company throughout the day. She's quite the talker, so a home without shared walls will keep everyone happiest. When she does get out and about, she handles even long car rides like a champ.

Rory is so happy and affectionate with her people and adores cuddling up with them whenever she can. She's a bit wary of new faces at first, but warms up nicely once she gets some attention. She's easygoing around other dogs, though she's more of an observer than a playmate. Because she needs a restricted diet to help manage her weight, she can be a bit of a picky eater, so patience at mealtime goes a long way with this sweet lady.

Rory is currently carrying extra weight, which has led to some liver strain, so she is on a restricted diet to help her slim down and feel her best. She also has reduced vision due to retinal scarring, though it doesn't slow her down one bit around her familiar people and spaces. Rory does need eye drops and ointment twice a day, but the process doesn’t bother her at all. With a caring home and some diet management, Rory has every chance to feel healthier and more comfortable with each passing month.

Rory is a longhair and will require grooming.

Rory is available for adoption from Herndon, VA. Please email Annie at intake@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Rory is $250.
