August's Story

Meet August!

Positives: August is a handsome red-and-white husky mix who’s as playful as he is resilient. He absolutely loves his toys and is especially fond of tug-of-war sessions with his people. He’s crate trained, neutered, vaccinated, and safe to handle. Once he settles, he’s surprisingly quiet in his kennel, and he enjoys spending time with humans who understand him. He’s shown he can get along with other dogs, especially with slow introductions, and even did well when meeting puppies. He’s affectionate in his own way and ready for a fresh start with an experienced family who can show him the ropes of indoor life.

Things he needs support on: August likely spent most of his life outdoors, as shown by the fly strikes on his ears, so he’s still adjusting to indoor life. He does have some kennel stress and doesn’t like sharing close quarters with other dogs. In the past (while at a high-volume shelter in California), he was involved in a scuffle with a kennelmate when food and water were limited and shared—since then, he’s shown signs of resource guarding. For this reason, he’ll do best with an experienced owner who can set clear boundaries, manage his environment, and give him structure. On leash, he’s strong and pulls, so a harness is recommended. With consistency, patience, and plenty of playtime with his toys, August has all the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Location: Langley, BC
Age: ~4 years old
Size: 60 lbs
Gender: Male
Vaccinations & Neuter: Up to date & neutered
Potty trained: Working on it
Crate trained: Yes
Kid friendly: Yes, best with older children
Dog friendly: Yes, with slow introductions
Cat friendly: No
Energy level: Medium
Drive: Some prey drive, not suitable with small animals
