Augie's Story
Augie is an 11-year-old dog who needs a safe soft place to spend his remaining years. He is affectionate, and has a people-oriented temperament. He is extremely sweet and bonds strongly with his caregiver. He prefers constant proximity, often following his person from room to room.

He is friendly with other dogs and enjoys short, appropriate play sessions. He is learning visual cues due to being deaf, already understanding basic commands such as “come” and “good boy.”

Augie is mostly potty trained, with only two indoor accidents since arriving in foster care, and otherwise reliably eliminates outside when given routine access. He enjoys short walks and outdoor time. He loves to sunbathe on the back porch.

He is treat motivated and generally eats well, though he can be selective and prefers added wet food. He does best with consistent routine and may become anxious when separated from his person.

Augie will do best in a calm, stable, patient home where someone is present all the time, as he struggles with being alone and can become significantly anxious without companionship.

He does have ongoing medical and behavioral needs, including mobility and neurological concerns currently under veterinary evaluation, as well as anxiety that can be significant at times. He will require a patient, structured home willing to continue his medical follow-up and provide ongoing support.

He can not navigate stairs at all with his mobility issues.

Despite these challenges, Augie is affectionate, engaged, and highly people-focused, with a strong desire to stay close to his caregiver.

Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies.

Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered.

Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption.

Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.
