Auggie's Story
Auggie first came to the shelter in June 2022 under-socialized and unsure of the world around him. Everything felt overwhelming, and it was clear he hadn’t yet learned what it means to feel safe. With time, quiet walks, and gentle introductions at his own pace, Auggie slowly began to open up, revealing the sweet, sensitive dog we knew he could be. Auggie is a unique blend of Siberian Husky, Terrier, Chow Chow, and Dalmatian; an eclectic mix that shows up in both his looks and his thoughtful, independent personality. Auggie was adopted not long after he first arrived, but in June 2023, Auggie was returned. While he came back with more confidence, he also returned a bit more guarded, as if unsure whether he could trust again. Today, Auggie is no longer the shut down pup we first met. He continues to grow and will do best in a patient, understanding home that offers calm, structure, and consistency. With continued training, gentle guidance, and plenty of reassurance, especially as he works through resource guarding, Auggie has the potential to become a deeply loyal and wonderful companion.

If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:
E: Adoption@hempsteadny.gov
E: Foster@hempsteadny.gov
E: Rescue@hempsteadny.gov
T. 516.785.5220
Wantagh Long Island, New York

#Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #takemehome #adoption #rescue #rescueismyfavoritebreed #opttoadopt
