Aubrey hasn't turned any heads yet, but she's currently our (accidentally) best kept secret — don't sleep on this dog. She arrived really unsure of herself but has grown so much in a short time. Her body language is darling, she's doing great in Brooklyn, she's charmingly timid at first but loves belly rubs, and our pack of three other dogs immediately accepted her charming energy. She's a perfect sporty buddy and also super respectful of the house and chill indoors. She pulls on leash and is learning not to bark at hallway noises, both common transition period challenges. If we didn't already have three other foster dogs here, we'd 100% keep her until she got adopted. She's going to be the most incredible forever dog for someone. She's so much fun and light and we're so lucky we got her for a few nights!”<br/><br/>Level of dog ownership experience required:<br/>BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn't necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. <br/><br/>Energy level:<br/>MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they're understimulated.) <br/><br/>Okay in the City:<br/>Country Mouse. Best in calm areas with access to green space. <br/><br/>Potty Training:<br/>Yes! Does her business perfectly. <br/><br/>Comfort With Strangers:<br/>Wallflower in the most charming way. Initially, very apprehensive and nervous around new people. It takes her a while to warm up and get used to strangers. She never shows any aggression towards new people. Needs time to sniff people out to ensure that they're not a threat. once she gains some degree of comfort she will allow new people to pet her and stroke her.<br/><br/>Behavior w/Children:<br/>Would be okay with older children - 12 years and up. <br/><br/>Social Behavior w/Other Dogs:<br/>Awesome with other dogs!! <br/><br/>Respectful Behavior w/ Other Animals (cats, small pets, etc.):<br/>Would be okay in a home with a cat she's a genlte girl! <br/><br/>Mouthy Behavior:<br/>Has shown a willingness to chew on paper, paper towels and small items on the floor. But she is never aggressive regarding it if you take it away from her. More or less seems to be a stealth stimulation characteristic. But is absolutely not mouthy when it comes to people, hands, feet, furniture. <br/><br/>Separation Anxiety:<br/>Adjusting. Does fairly well with separation. Will leave the house from anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. She may bark initially for the first minute or two and then settles down. I've witnessed that she will be in her crate upon my return.<br/><br/>Leash Manners:<br/>Getting used to it. She is absolutely insistent upon walking to the right of you. She happily gets onto the leash and walks with you. Initially, she would either walk behind me or to the side of me. as she's gained more confidence being outside, she now will attempt to take a lead and can pull on the leash. In the process of correcting this behavior.<br/><br/>Cuddle Bug Level:<br/>Lots of cuddle potential. Once she's comfy with you - she's open to cuddling. <br/><br/>Jumping On People To Say Hello:<br/>Calm Greetings. She is not a jumper. <br/><br/>Crate Training:<br/>Yep/Mostly. She is very comfortable in the crate, will enter and exit on her own with the door being open. Happily goes inside at night for bedtime. At times does need to be led in during the daytime if I'm leaving the house. But once inside she gets comfortable very quickly. <br/><br/>Medical status:<br/>Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake<br/><br/>How did this dog end up with Social Tees?<br/>Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. <br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old).
