Atlas's Story

Atlas was surrendered to a Canadian shelter, along with 4 other dogs, when his owner was overwhelmed with 5 dogs and did what was in their best interest and surrendered them where they could be safe at the shelter.

They were well taken care of, short of needing grooms and mostly vetted, so they come from a home that had the best intentions.

Atlas is 1 year old, according to his previous owner, but we weren't provided with an exact birthdate, so we gave him an estimated DOB: August 1, 2025. He weighs in at 5.3 KG / 11.5 POUNDS. I don't know what his breed mix(es) are.

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.

Atlas is a super unsure dog around new people and situations, but once he's been given the grace to figure out you mean no harm, he's a really good little guy. Thankfully, he's very good with communicating his discomfort and will growl to let you know very clearly he's unsure.

He's still so young, so we know with the right adopter and some professional training to grow his confidence, he will overcome his insecurities. Poodles are so sensitive and to know a poodle is to understand where Atlas is coming from.

Atlas was raised with a house full of dogs and is also in foster care with dogs and is generally fine, but he did get into an altercation with a resident foster dog and they had a quarrel. Over what? We're not sure.

So, ideally, looking for a no dog home for Atlas. A focus on him is probably best over a multi dog home. A no kid home will also be required. Simply a precaution as he can give a warning growl and I am not comfortable trusting that fully in a home with young kids.

Atlas really is a good dog that just needs the right adopter to help guide him through adulthood.

He is a dog that will require regular grooming, so be sure that is in your budget when considering adoption.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Atlas is a sweet, gentle boy who can be very timid when you first meet him, but give him a little time and patience and you'll see his loving personality come out. Once Atlas warms up to you, he loves to cuddle in close and will happily stay by your side.

Atlas gets along very well with other dogs. It may take him a couple of days to feel completely comfortable in a new home, but once he settles in, he fits right in. He loves playing and running around with the other dogs and is always happy to have toys to chew on and play with.

When it comes to food, Atlas likes to do things on his own schedule! He may not eat right away, especially when he's adjusting to a new environment. Once he feels safe and comfortable, though, his appetite improves and he'll dive right in.

Atlas can also be quite vocal. He likes to bark and will sometimes growl as a way of communicating, but he has never shown any signs of aggression.

He enjoys going for walks, although his leash manners are still a work in progress. Atlas currently likes to zigzag, cross in front of you, wander behind you, and generally explore everything around him! With some patience, consistency, and leash training, he'll continue to improve.

Overall, Atlas is a loving, playful and affectionate dog who just needs a little time to build trust. Once he knows he's safe and comfortable, he'll reward you by becoming a loyal little companion who wants to be right by your side.

---------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

----------------------------------------

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic.
