Atlas's Story

Meet Atlas! Atlas is 3 years old and thought to be a possible Shepherd/Husky/Collie type mix. We cannot know for sure without a DNA test, but he is obviously 100% handsome!

Atlas was surrendered after a welfare investigation led us to a home with too many animals for his person to be able to care for. Unfortunately, Atlas lived a bit of a sheltered life, never having left the confinement of his home & yard, so coming to our shelter was a bit of a shock to him, and we're giving him lots of time to settle. Dogs like Atlas who were severely under-socialized may simply need an owner who is understanding and patient, and won't try to rush them into situations that they're unsure of. His confidence is lower right now, but every day it improves and we know he'll blossom into a happy and secure doggo with the right family!

Atlas is a very sensitive boy who is affectionate and cuddly. He should do well with older/respectful kids & other animals as long as everyone is properly introduced and supervised, and personalities with other pets are not overly unbalanced. He is the type of boy who would rather retreat when something scares him, so we don't foresee him being a confrontational dog. He's vocal and will whine and moan if something is concerning him - he's just a big baby! (he even had to be carried into the vet clinic for his appointment, which our vet was happy to assist with) ;)

Atlas is playful and rambunctious when he feels comfortable, so we think he'll make a fun outdoor activity companion for anyone who wants a dog who can go walking, hiking, jogging and adventuring with! He's very smart and would benefit from continued training, which should also help him gain confidence!

If you are a patient, loving and involved person who is looking to give a 2nd chance at life to a boy like Atlas, we'd love to meet you. We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been generally approved:
https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.html

Atlas is now neutered & fully vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200.
