Athena's Story

Second Chance for Sweet Athena!

Athena was recently adopted into what truly was an amazing home with wonderful adopters who cared deeply for her. Sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts and lots of love, things just don't work out, and that's okay.

In Athena's case, she and the resident dog were simply not getting along in the home environment. Her adopters did everything they could, and we are so grateful for the love they gave her during her time there. Ultimately, it became clear that Athena would thrive best as the only dog in the home.

While she has met dogs here at the shelter and has done well, we believe Athena truly shines when she can be the only gal soaking up all the attention in a home setting! She wants to focus all her love on her people! We also believe she would do best in a home with no cats, and no small children, where she can feel safe, secure, and fully relaxed.

Being back at the shelter has been hard on her. Athena truly hates being back and would love nothing more than to get right back into a home environment where she can relax, snuggle, and be someone's whole world again.

Her adopter had this to say about her:

"Athena is full of that goofy lab personality, a true silly goose! She's never met a toy that doesn't bring her joy nor a lap that she doesn't think is her personal throne. Timid and shy at first, she's a quiet girl until she gets to snoring! Although shy, she's quite a curious girl who enjoys discovering all the new things the world has to offer her. She's a jitterbug that will melt into a love bug as soon as there's an opportunity to cuddle, she makes sure to always have kisses locked and loaded for anyone within reach and expects belly rubs as payment for them.

Couches and beds are her favorite places to lounge, I know she'd love to find her forever family to snuggle up with every night. Just be prepared for her to hog the blankets...and all of the space! We affectionately called her Panther because of her silky black fur and the way she slinks around like she belongs anywhere she goes (and the way she sprawls everywhere she lays).

She's eager to please and loves treats-though she'll need some help learning table manners! Athena is the definition of happy go lucky, she just wants a family to focus all of her love on. If you want endless affection, constant laughs and the sweetest kisses, Athena is your girl."

Athena is not a "failure." She is not "too much." She just needs the right fit... a home where she can be the queen of the castle, the blanket hog, the resident silly goose, and your one and only.

If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, snuggly black beauty to devote her whole heart to you, Athena is waiting.

We have included some pictures of Athena during her time in the home to show just how well she thrived in a home environment. She truly blossoms outside of the shelter.

A huge thank you to the loving family who gave Athena a chance and tried so hard for her. Because of them, we now know exactly what the best fit will be for Athena's final forever home.

Apply for Athena today... her happily ever after is waiting.
