Athena's Story

ATHENA
3 years

Attributes
Dog friendly
Requires another dog
Adult only home preferred
Good with cats
Crate trained
Not best for apartments
Good on car rides
Housetrained
Will potty on leash
Requires a fence

Athena was a stray originally from West Virginia. She came into the Midwest BREW program after having an emergency C-section. Unfortunately, Athena was too weak and covered by hundreds of ticks and none of her puppies could survive. When she came to Midwest BREW, we made sure she got the care she needed and helped her during the painful recovery. She is now ready to find her forever home.

The veterinarian estimates her age between 3 and 5 years old. In the time she has been with the rescue, she is fully recovered from the surgery, eating well, normal weight of around 20 lbs and loves to go on walks and hang out in the fenced yard at her foster home.

She is a very sweet girl and is 100% potty and crate trained. Although she can sleep in the crate without any problem at night she loves sleeping in a big bed with her people. She is also trustworthy when you leave the house, that she doesn't need to be crated, but is fine being crated while she gets adjusted to your household.

Without any history it is hard to know what she may have experienced, so she is shy and skittish at first, especially with new people and places (She does ride super well in the car!!). She has been at her newest foster home for 2 months and is showing improved confidence, but is still startled by loud noises and things she has probably not experienced before. She will jump down from the couch or chair and run to hide, but she does not tremble, shake, shut down or salivate and recovers really quickly. And once she warms up, she is very affectionate and silly and loves to cuddle with you! She is submissive and has no issues with other dogs. She is also great with our cat!!!!

The ideal home for her would be a quiet household, no young kids and really needs another dog AND a fenced in yard. These are two must haves. She also loves to walk, and potties on leash (always a bonus), so her family must be active enough to want to take her for regular walks.

NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
