Toys, hands, love, excitement; all go directly into the mouth portal. She’s working on her manners, but when emotions run high, the hippo instincts take over. It’s not personal. It’s biology. Athena believes all nearby dogs are her friends and that friendship should begin immediately, loudly, and at full speed. She regularly attempts to play with her kennel neighbors using classic semi-aquatic chaos loaf logic: approach fast, bump enthusiastically, invite wrestling. Because of this, we think she would love a dog friend at home who enjoys rough-and-tumble play and doesn’t mind being gently (but persistently) hippoed. Athena brings thunderous affection, unexpected zoomies, and the emotional presence of an animal that definitely weighs 3,000 pounds in her own mind.
