Athena's Story

Our very own hippo goddess! Athena is a plus-size personality in a dog-shaped body with the soul of a river-dwelling chaos nugget. She does not float serenely, she charges joyfully. Grace is optional. Enthusiasm is mandatory. She is extremely talkative and will happily provide commentary on her meals, your meals, the weather, and the audacity of closed doors. If you’ve ever wanted a dog who sounds like she’s hosting a podcast called “Did You Hear That?” Athena is your girl! In true hippo fashion, Athena explores the world with her mouth. Toys, hands, love, excitement; all go directly into the mouth portal. She’s working on her manners, but when emotions run high, the hippo instincts take over. It’s not personal. It’s biology. Athena believes all nearby dogs are her friends and that friendship should begin immediately, loudly, and at full speed. She regularly attempts to play with her kennel neighbors using classic semi-aquatic chaos loaf logic: approach fast, bump enthusiastically, invite wrestling. Because of this, we think she would love a dog friend at home who enjoys rough-and-tumble play and doesn’t mind being gently (but persistently) hippoed. Athena brings thunderous affection, unexpected zoomies, and the emotional presence of an animal that definitely weighs 3,000 pounds in her own mind. She will take up space in your home, your heart, and probably your lap.. whether or not this seems physically reasonable!
