This lovely girl has successfully lived in homes before and has experience being part of a family. She is friendly with other dogs and enjoys having the opportunity to play with her canine friends!<br/><br/>As an Anatolian Shepherd mix, Athena comes from a long line of livestock guardian dogs. These breeds were developed to protect livestock and property, so keeping watch over their surroundings comes naturally to them. Athena may bark out the windows, alert her family when someone approaches the door, or demonstrate other behaviors associated with guarding. These instincts are not necessarily signs of a problem, but rather part of what she was bred to do!<br/><br/>Because of these natural instincts, Athena will benefit from an adopter who understands guardian breeds and is prepared to help her navigate life in a home environment. Appropriate socialization, positive reinforcement, and thoughtful management will be important in helping her learn when it is appropriate to alert and how to settle comfortably in everyday situations.
