Athena's Story

Say hello to ATHENA! She's a very sweet Lab mix who is just about 1 year old and fully grown at 45 pounds. She has a beautiful black coat with a white chest and paws. She looks like she's wearing a tuxedo with white gloves! :) <br/>Athena loves adults and kids and we can share lots of videos that will show how loving she is and just wants to give and get kisses. She's very playful and loving and has lived with large and small dogs and is great with them. She loves to chase cats but just wants to play with them. She's a very smart young gal and has a charming demeanor. She will be a lovely member of a family who is looking for pup who they can take for walks, adventures and just hang out with. We think she'd love a doggie sibling but would do fine as a solo pup with an active family. A fenced in yard would be awesome for her too. Athena is healthy, spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, house-trained and crate trained too. She's such a great girl! Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info on her!

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
