Meet Athena <br/><br/>Athena "Tina" is a 10 year-old black mini poodle shihtzu mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. Her past has shaped her personality and made her who she is today. Her pictures show how far she has come since April 2026. There were days that I didn't think she would make it. <br/><br/>Athena is a calm, selfless companion who would thrive in a quieter home. She enjoys the simple things-short walks, cozy spots to relax, and being near her favorite humans. She has a sweet, affectionate nature and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts. She isn't always quick to trust due to her troubled past. She was nearly starved to death by her previous owner and witnessed her brother Leo pass away next to her. She and 2 other living dogs were pulled from a travel trailer that was without heat, water or electricity in April of 2026 and it took the love and gentle care of our Rescue owner Gaby, nursing them and Tina back to health. Tina quickly over bonded to Gaby and is very cautious about meeting new people. Once she bonds though she is yours for life. It's very important that whomever adopts her has a fenced in yard because she can be a door dasher and wants to be with her person always. She is one of those dogs that would crawl under your skin to be with you if she could. A true Velcro dog indeed. She will want to dart out the door just to be with you and this could be dangerous for her. Athena isn't a huge fan of kids as they do make her quite anxious likely due to lack of exposure to them. Overall she is very under socialized having lived in a hermit like environment. I have to believe that there are other caring people out there that can love and work with Tina as she can be the biggest love and full of affection. She is working on housetraining and does do well with puppy pads. Living in a trailer for an extended period of time did not help her housetraining skills. She will go outside consistently but will also have occasional accidents. <br/><br/>Once you have earned trust, Tina is the kind of dog who will happily keep you company throughout the day and then curl up beside you at night. If you're looking for a loyal, low-key companion who just wants to be loved, Athena could be the perfect fit.
