Astrid's Story

Meet Astrid — a remarkable 3-year-old German Shepherd with the intelligence, drive, and loyalty the breed is known and loved for.
Astrid is an exceptionally smart and focused dog who thrives when given structure, purpose, and consistent engagement. She already has a solid foundation, knowing basic commands such as sit and come, and she walks well on leash. She is eager to please and highly responsive to her handler, making her an excellent candidate for continued training, advanced obedience, or even a working role in the right environment.

What truly sets Astrid apart is the depth of her bond. She forms strong, meaningful connections with her people and is deeply devoted once that relationship is established. It is important to note that Astrid is not aggressive; however, she will require a patient and understanding adopter who is willing to visit multiple times to build trust—especially in households with men.

Astrid would do best in an experienced German Shepherd home where her adopter understands the needs of the breed, including the importance of mental stimulation, routine, and ongoing training. She is a dog who enjoys having a “job,” whether that’s structured exercise, learning new skills, or engaging in enrichment activities. While she is more than capable of settling down and relaxing with her person, she will not thrive in a low-activity environment.

She has previously lived with children and has shown no issues with food or toys, demonstrating a stable and appropriate temperament in those areas. She is also crate trained and potty trained.
Astrid is not a beginner’s dog, but in the right home, she will be an incredibly rewarding companion—loyal, intelligent, and deeply connected to her person.

If interested in adopting, please click the link below to fill out an application:
www.bellwetherharbor.org/adoptions/application-for-adoption/

Bellwether Harbor's Adoption Policy
Bellwether Harbor does not do same day adoptions. Please keep in mind multiple visits to the shelter may be required. This number is determined various factors including the potential adopter’s experience and the training level/potential behavior issues of the animal. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat, please fill out an application on the shelter website. After the application has been received, the Adoption Coordinator will conduct a landlord check and vet check (where applicable). If approved, applicants are contacted for a phone interview, after which an appointment may be set up to meet the animal. Please note: Applying for an animal does not guarantee adoption of said animal. Adoptions are approved based on a variety of factors. We do our best to match animals with the best homes, not the first homes. It is possible that adoption of a specific animal will be denied even if the application is approved.
