Asher is one of OPIN's LAP (Loved Again Program) dogs. Asher is currently located in Middletown, CT and will go from his current home to your home. <br/><br/>Here’s a bit about Asher …<br/><br/>Asher was born on June 16, 2023. This 9-month old pup is a Shih tzu-Maltese mix, weighing in at 17 pounds. Asher is neutered and fully vaccinated. He is a victim of a puppy mill breeding situation and was originally purchased by a well-meaning person who just could not bond with Asher due to his timid and fearful personality. His owner then surrendered him to an experienced person who could give him the time, love and TLC he needed to become a normal pup. <br/><br/>Although Asher still needs a gentle and patient home, and additional rehabilitation, this little boy has flourished.<br/><br/>Asher is good with small and medium sized dogs, he is neutral towards cats. He currently lives with three other dogs and has not lived with children but we feel he will do well with older, gentle kids. He is crate trained and potty trained in an X-pen and now learning to do his business in a fenced in yard. <br/><br/>Asher’s foster mom says: Today, Asher has grown into an affectionate puppy, cuddling up next to his foster mom's feet. He follows her around the house. His favorite treat is Trader Joe's freeze dried chicken. He has shown no resource guarding issues. He can still be a little skittish, when approached directly, but there is a gentle work around with a cozy, soft blanket. In time, this behavior will diminish, as the bond of trust grows in his forever home. He loves his baths and a gentle towel off; he anxiously, tolerated the hair dryer. His nails can be trimmed easily. <br/><br/>Asher loves playing tug with his foster mom's Lurcher puppy. Elk horns or peanut butter kongs, are his favorite chew toys. No rawhide treats are suggested, because he swallows these treats whole.<br/><br/>Today, Asher demonstrates that he settles nicely, he is a calm, friendly puppy, who needs to have his space, regularly honored, as he adjusts, to the everyday things and changes that happen in a regular dog and cat friendly household. He totally loves other dogs and he finds security in their company. He barks when people come through the front door and then, he stops barking easily, with a little positive redirection. The ideal home for Asher is a home with a yard, which he is used to and ideally with other friendly dogs. <br/><br/>If you are prepared to invest time, patience, loving-care, plus, the training resources that Asher needs, then, he will become the most appreciative, loving dog, you could ever possibly imagine.<br/><br/>Asher settles nicely in his crate at bedtime, and he does have a sweet little snore, when he is totally relaxed. He has grown to have house privileges without being destructive.
