Fat bottom girls do make the world go round. Lol Some call these yorkies “jumbo yorkies”. As her hair grows in she is starting to look like a Yorkie.<br/><br/>3/30/26-Ash has been with us since 1/30. Ash loves life outside. She loves to explore and run around the yard. She comes up to us and touches her nose to us, but we still can’t each for her. Our life with Ash is strictly on her terms. I find it amusing that she loves to sleep with me but I can’t touch her (totally not aggressive, just she runs). She lives with two other dogs and a cat. Because she is so skittish she would do best in a fully fenced in yard that allows her to go in and out freely.<br/><br/>3/27/26-ASH NEEDS A SPECIAL SOMEONE…..<br/>Ash needs someone to step up and help her achieve her best life. She has come a long way but still needs time and patience. Ash loves to be 2 feet from me but does not let me touch her. She will come up to me and sniff my hand but runs when I reach for her. I can reach for her when she is up on the bed and she will stay in my lap as long as I’m petting her. She runs in and out of the house on her own and loves to have zoomies around the yard. She is good with dogs & cats.<br/><br/>3/19/26-Ash is slowly coming around . Her greatest joy is running circles around the fenced back yard. She is a happy girl. She is coming up to me on her own but still runs off when reach for her. We are waiting on her DNA test her foster mom paid for because she is bigger than the Yorkshire terrier breed standard & she is curious what Ash is. Ash still has a way to go in trusting people but I have no doubt we get there.<br/><br/>3/10/26-Ash is still learning how to be a dog. The breeder life wasn’t kind to her. All she ever knew was cage life. She is a happy girl but I think it’s a natural reflex for her to run when I reach for her. I can pick her up off the bed by giving her a stern “Ash”. Once I have her I can hold her and pet her and she doesn’t try to get away. She still leaves as soon as I’m done petting her though. It’s ironic because she usually lies 2 feet away and follows me everywhere. Ash doesn’t look like your typical Yorkie breed standards so tomorrow I’m going to DNA test her as we are just very curious. Results will take about two weeks. She can still go to her new home before then though.<br/><br/>3/5/26-Ash continues to learn new things every day. She is starting to get the morning zoomies. Potty training is going well when I’m home . She still uses the potty pad when I’m not home. The last two days I did not gate her when I left the house and she was completely quiet.<br/><br/>2/28/26-When you get a ex commercial breeder dog a big part of fostering them is getting them to eat. Ash came and didn’t know how to chew. She most likely was fed pig slop or mush. We have slowly been introducing her to different textures of food. It’s still interesting to watch her try to chew different items. At first she was terrified of bowls so she had to be fed off a placemat then we introduced her to a flat dish. Water was fed out of a shallow clear pie plate. Sometimes cage kept dogs drink from a rabbit bottle. She has discovered chew bones and toys. We are still working on house training - there seems to be an issue with her running past me to get out - we are working on that. Me gating her in my room when I leave seems to be working as my husband said she is no longer barking when I leave. I think she was just scared and needed to feel secure.<br/><br/>2/25/26-Ash’s thought process is a mystery. She loves to be by me but doesn't like to be touched. I continue to force my touch on her and she tolerates it. sooner or later she will realize that I am no threat to her. We have started gating her in my room when I go to work because she was barking at my husband while I am gone. Problem solved - no barking at all when I am gone. She must feel more secure in my room. Now lets talk about potty training- Western NY weather has not been cooperating. she does not like the feeling of snow on her feet so she still mostly goes on potty pads. I am slowly moving the pads towards the door so she is currently going in the garage on a pad in front of the door. For a dog that spent 3 years of her life likely in a cage this is progress.<br/><br/>2/22/26-Ash has been with us since 1/30. When I leave her alone with my husband she barks the whole time. Yet when I’m home too with my husband there she is quiet. My daughter enters the house if I am not home & my husband is alone and she stops barking. So it’s safe to say that she prefers a woman. There is someone always home so I’m not sure if she would bark if she was alone. I’m going to crate her in my room tomorrow to see if the security of the crate will make a difference.<br/><br/>2/14/26-Fostering small breed ex commercial breeder dogs can be a challenge. These dogs most often live their whole life in a cage. The only time someone reaches for them it’s not gentle. Once we get them into rescue they are either terrified to come out of the cage or they come out of it terrified. Ash was a mix of both. She arrived 8 weeks after giving birth & she is adapting very well. She follows the other dogs around now. She uses dog stairs to get up and down on/off the bed and couch. She trusts me enough to let me pick her up but she doesn't like it yet. She sleeps with us and is always looking to see what I’m doing . Every day I see signs that she is learning and happy.<br/><br/>2/13/26-Looking for someone to sit beside you all day. Well we have the couch potato for you . Meet Ash the 3 year old Yorkie with a bad haircut. This girl came in terrified and makes progress every day. What a sweet soul.<br/><br/>2/9/26-We have had a big morning of progress. Ash is now joining us in the living room on her own. We are babysitting 8 week old foster puppy Oliver Twist and she is coming out to play with him. Maybe he reminds her of all her past babies she cared for. Yesterday I carried her out of the bedroom to the couch and she spent the whole day there. She even stayed there when I laid down on it. She has been here 10 days and she hasn’t barked yet.<br/><br/>2/8/26-Sometimes it’s the quiet ones that sit in the corner that needs us the most. Ash spends most of her day right now in the corner of my bedroom coming out to sneak random peaks at what the rest of us are doing . If you look at her she retreats to her safe spot. Yesterday I went and picked her up and put her on the couch where she spent most of the day napping . I would walk by and talk to her giving her a quick pat then continue on with my business. I finally found a food that she will eat but she eats such a small portion. I have taken to giving her several small meals a day. The weather has delayed our potty training (-2 degrees without windchill) today. She is using potty pads like a champ. We will continue on our quest to make her feel safe.<br/><br/>2/5/26-Two days post spay and Ash is doing great. She has only been with us for a week and is starting to get curious and explore the house. She finally came out of the bedroom to see what we were doing. <br/><br/>2/3/26-Ash of Yorkshire’s puppy days are behind her. Her spay went well today & she is resting comfortably after her spay. <br/><br/>2/2/26-Ash Of Yorkshire has been with us almost 3 days as she continues to depress. First 2 days she stayed in the crate and didn’t come out . Last night she surprised us by leaving the crate and taking up residence in the bedroom where the other dogs sleep. She is still pretty nervous and scared. Ash gave birth to her last litter 8 weeks ago. No more babies for our girl. She is a bit over weight at 18 pounds & doesn’t have her beach body back but who isn’t after giving birth. She must have had to be shaved by breeder but once her hair grows bad she will look like a Yorkie again. She is being fostered with 2 dogs and a cat and they all get along great.<br/><br/>01/30/25-Ash of Yorkshire is a sweet but very scared right now 3 year old female Yorkshire Terrier who arrived tonight thanks to her transport volunteers. She came from a commercial breeder as they just didn’t need her anymore. She has her pre-spay appointment Monday 2/2 & her spay on Tuesday 2/3. Once she is spayed & we get to know her a little bit she will be ready to go home.
