Arnie's Story
From Arnie's foster mom:

The first time I sat down with Arnie, he climbed up beside me on a picnic table and leaned his whole body into my chest, soft and trusting. That was the moment I realized the dog people see in the kennel isn’t the real Arnie.

The real Arnie is a young, soulful, affectionate 45 lb. Mountain Cur/Boxer mix who just wants to feel safe and settled in a home of his own. When he stayed with me in a calm home environment, he transformed. He slept — truly slept — curled up on the couch. He’s a snuggler. A leaner. The kind of dog who rests his head on you and lets out a deep sigh the moment he knows he’s safe.

Arnie bonds deeply with people and keeps a watchful eye on what you’re doing. Even when I step out briefly, he settles and waits patiently for me to return — always happy and relieved to see me come back. He’s also been wonderful with visitors; when a friend came over, he happily climbed onto the sofa beside her and snuggled for nearly half an hour before coming back to check in with me — and then returning to her for more cuddles.

Because the shelter environment can be overwhelming, he doesn’t always show his best side in a kennel. Sometimes he hangs back and watches. Other times, the excitement around him can make him jump up and seem a little intense. Any verbal cues you might hear are simply his way of protecting himself while he figures out a new situation — not aggression. Give him a moment to approach at his own pace, and the loving dog underneath appears very quickly.

He can live with other dogs with slow, respectful introductions. He communicates clearly when he needs space and would likely do best with calmer companions rather than rough, high-energy playmates.

Arnie has also been excellent about house manners. In my home, he has been consistently potty trained — he goes outside promptly after meals and hasn’t had any accidents indoors. If my high-energy puppy weren't already running our household, Arnie would still be curled up in my bed.

In an ideal world, Arnie would have:
• A calm household
• A fenced yard
• Possibly older children, with thoughtful introductions
• Someone who appreciates a sensitive, loyal dog

If you're looking for a new best friend, Arnie is your boy. Please contact the shelter to set up a meet-and-greet. He's waiting for you!
