Archie's Story
Meet Archie – a very smart and easygoing, happy dog looking for his forever home. He is a American Eskimo and West Highland Terrier Mix. Archie was surrendered along with an older Shih Tzu due to his owner going into hospice care. Archie is two years old with white fur – he does shed a small amount. He has expressive dark brown eyes. Archie currently weighs 24 pounds and he is slightly overweight – best to trim him down by four pounds or so. He loves the fenced yard in his foster home and goes for several long walks per day in the neighborhood. Walks nicely on the leash with minimal pulling and just stops and looks at other people or animals he sees without a bark. Archie’s foster mom has only heard him bark once or twice. He has a strong interest in squirrels and wild turkeys but just stares at them without making any noise. He saw a coyote from a distance on one of his walks and thought it might be a playmate and went into a play posture until his foster mom pulled him away. He is completely housebroken. One of the small resident dogs uses disposable potty pads indoors occasionally and Archie used it a couple of times. He gets along great with the three resident dogs in his foster home and with all the dogs he meets and would like to play with them but they are too small for safe play. He is fed and given treats separate from the other dogs to proactively prevent any scuffles. We have no information on how he does with cats. Archie makes himself comfortable on the furniture which is allowed in his foster home. He is kept in a large crate at night next to his foster mom’s bed and when the family is gone. Archie rides fine in the car provided that you wrap his leash around the passenger seat headrest. Overall, Archie is a real treasure who will make a great addition to some lucky family. He has been neutered, is heartworm negative, current on all vaccinations, and is microchipped. He had a recent dental cleaning (very nice teeth)! Preference will be given to adopters who are active and can exercise & walk him & who will not have to leave Archie alone for more than five hours at a time. Since we have no experience with Archie around young kids, he will only be adopted to an adult-only home or one with older kids with dog experience. He would also enjoy a dog playmate but would also be fine as an only dog. If you want to be considered to adopt Archie and meet the adoption requirements please call (651) 771-5662. Archie’s adoption fee is $400.
