BUT WHY?<br/><br/>April’s story didn’t start out easy. She was seized from an owner neglect situation where she lived tied outside to a tree with a large rope. Trash was scattered everywhere, and her only shelter was a metal trash can, even when nighttime temperatures dropped to 19 degrees.<br/><br/>After being removed from that situation, April spent time at a kill shelter in Georgia before finally making her way to Wisconsin. Now she’s safe in a foster home, and she’s showing everyone just how wonderful she is. She deserves a family who will give her the love, comfort, and happy life she should have had all along.<br/><br/>This girl LOVES her people. She is affectionate, incredibly loyal, smart, and so eager to please. Once April understands what you’re asking of her, she tries her very best to get it right. She wants to make you happy, and watching her learn and grow is so rewarding!<br/><br/>April is a quick learner who would absolutely LOVE a family that wants to teach her new tricks. She’s very treat motivated, and she’s even learning to take treats gently. When you remind her to be gentle, she listens! Give this girl some treats, a little patience, and a chance to learn, and she will do her best to make you proud.<br/>Here’s what makes April so special:<br/><br/>• She gets daily walks of about 2 miles and is doing GREAT with her leash training! She has been working on some leash reactivity and is learning to focus on her humans instead of other dogs. She now does well passing dogs when given a little space.<br/><br/>• April has a good recall and does well off leash in appropriate, secure settings. She loves being able to explore while still checking in with her people!<br/><br/>• April is a strong girl with medium energy. She enjoys daily walks, playing outside in the yard, and having opportunities to burn off some energy. She also does a great job matching the vibe of the other dogs in her home. If everyone else is lounging around and taking naps all day, she’s happy to join in on the relaxation, too!<br/><br/>• She loves to play and can be a bit of a rough player, but she’s learning to play more gently with guidance and correction. She’s a smart girl who wants to get it right!<br/><br/>• She has met and lived with many dogs of all ages and sizes in her foster home. With proper introductions, she does well with other dogs and can be a wonderful companion.<br/><br/>• She’s great with cats and absolutely LOVES the 6-month-old baby in her foster home! She gives gentle kisses when she gets the chance.<br/><br/>• She is not food aggressive or possessive over her things. She can enjoy her food and bones peacefully around other dogs.<br/><br/>• She is occasionally left out of her crate when her foster parents leave and does well hanging out with the other dogs without getting into trouble.<br/><br/>• She is house trained, knows several commands, and is always ready to learn more.<br/><br/>• When bedtime rolls around, April would LOVE to snuggle up in bed with you! But if you prefer your own sleeping space, she’s also perfectly fine sleeping in a crate in your bedroom. As long as she’s close to her people, she’s happy!<br/>April has been through more than any dog should have to experience, but she hasn’t lost her ability to love and trust her people. She wants to be by your side, spend time with you, and be part of your everyday life.<br/><br/>She isn’t looking for a perfect family or a life where she has to go everywhere and do everything. She just wants people who will love her, spend time with her, continue helping her learn, and appreciate the loyal, devoted companion she is.<br/>Imagine having a dog who looks to you for guidance, lights up when she figures out what you’re asking, and wants nothing more than to be part of your world. Apply: Fill out adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents.<br/>2.)Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email.<br/>3.)Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: after approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5 day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure its the right fit.<br/>4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue.<br/>5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process we conduct a home visit either in person or via zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have.<br/>6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter. The procedure MUST be done at HAWS Snip Clinic in Waukesha, WI or Wisconsin Community Veterinarian Center in Madison, WI. If you would like to go through your veterinarian or another location, we will reimburse $125 once we receive proof of the procedure.
