Anzu's Story
Meet Anzu!

This goofy boy is full of love, curiosity, and personality. About 6–7 months old, he has all the classic puppy energy — but also knows how to melt into your arms and settle in for a good cuddle. Even when the other dogs in the play yard are running chase, his favorite place to be is in your arms.

Anzu is quick to make friends and do zoomies around the yard with the other pups, but his favorite is getting belly scratches while the other dogs play fetch.

This pocket heeler is just 20 lbs, and likely won’t get much bigger.

Anzu was rescued from an at-capacity Texas shelter, when we pulled his sister (Yuzu) off the euthanasia list. We couldn't just save his sister and leave him behind! The name Yuzu comes from a "zesty citrus" in Japan, perfectly encompassing his sister's punchy personality. Anzu, on the other hand, translates to "peach", accounting for his tender sweetness.

Check out our other adoptable dogs to see Yuzu, his littermate, who is also looking for a home.

He's doing fairly well with crate training, but is in a boarding kennel environment: as he switches into an actual home environment, he may make improvements or regressions with crate training and housebreaking. He is also still a puppy that came in as a stray from the streets, and will take time to master how-to-be-a-dog. He does have a double coat like a husky or shiba, and is a shedder.

Heelers (otherwise called Cattle Dogs) were originally bred from a wild/primitive dog called the Australian Dingo. Though he is not as intense as a typical heeler, the breed is not for everyone. Please research breed traits if you are not familiar with them already: we will quiz you on them during the application process.

Anzu is looking for an adoptive home anywhere in the US, or a foster local to the Austin/San Antonio area. We do adopt out of state, including Hawaii, but adopters are responsible for expenses related to transport. He has not been tested with cats or livestock, and will be adopted as an indoor pet only.

TO APPLY - please fill out an adoption application at herdinghomerescue.com/adopt

DO NOT submit an inquiry through petfinder or apply through petfinder: we only accept applications done through our website only.
