Ansel is a 3-year-old Old English Sheepdog with a huge heart and an even bigger love for his people. He is affectionate, cuddly, and very much a velcro dog who wants to be wherever you are. Sit down and you will likely find Ansel nearby with his head in your lap, soaking up attention.<br/><br/>He is fully house trained and doing well with crate training. Once inside he settles nicely and continues to gain confidence with patience and positive reinforcement. Ansel is a smart boy who already knows sit, down, focus, kennel up, and his name, and he enjoys learning and working with his people.<br/><br/>Like many big, goofy sheepdogs, Ansel can be a little unaware of his size, but he is making great progress with leash manners using a gentle leader. A securely fenced yard where he can run and play would be ideal though not required. He loves snuggling, naps, meals, learning new things, and a good game of chase.<br/><br/>Ansel has lived successfully with a calm large dog and enjoys canine companionship when introductions are thoughtful. We do not recommend he go to a home with cats. Ansel came to use with a bit of resource guarding which is fully mitigated in his foster home by feeding him in his crate. He has also been successfully working on hand feeding and making huge improvements.<br/><br/>This big, lovable goof is loyal, affectionate, and deeply devoted to his humans. To support this, adopters must commit to positive reinforcement training through GDU. Preference will be given to families who enroll in our six-week Canine 101 class at our Troy, VA headquarters, with limited out-of-area placements considered with a private lesson and approved positive training class.<br/><br/>At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions.<br/><br/>Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA.
