Annie's Story

Annie / Female / 1.5 Years / 33 lbs / Lab mix / Good with Dogs / Unknown with Kids / Unknown with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Toronto

Follow Annie’s journey on Instagram @rescue.ranger.to

Annie has had a bit of a rough start to life. Found as a tiny pup suffering from malnutrition, parasites, and a coatimundi bite (Annie learned the adage of "never pick a fight with a coati" the hard way), she's since been rescued by caring people and given both food and medical care. Now, this sweet, loving, and above all, cuddly girl is searching for a forever home.

When you first meet Annie, the first thing you'll notice is that she's a shy dog. She doesn't come bounding up to play, and she doesn't view everyone as a friend she just hasn't met yet. You have to spend time with her, earn her trust, and then you'll find that this girl is the sweetest little love pup you ever did see.

Annie's three favorite things are snuggling, napping on someone's lap, and belly rubs, in that order. She'll happily spend all day snuggling on the couch—it's her happy place. Annie is always in the mood for couch cuddles and a long nap in her humans' arms. It'll take some work, but once you're in, she'll stick to you like glue.

Just as with people, new dogs need to be introduced slowly and calmly, letting Annie get used to their presence at her own pace. Her best possible canine companion would be an older, confident dog that understands her needs and doesn't rush her to play. Similarly, young children will need to give Annie her space until she's ready to interact. Cats are likely a fine fit for her somewhat skittish personality.

Although she'd prefer to spend all day as a couch potato, Annie still needs her exercise just like everyone else. The good news is she's an excellent walker; she doesn't pull on the leash, heels when asked, and doesn't react to passing people or other dogs. She's afraid of loud noises and busy streets, so definitely take her to a quiet park or neighborhood for her to get her steps in.

Speaking of steps, Annie often walks with a bit of a limp due to an injury from her puppy days that didn't heal properly. She has trouble going up stairs and keeping her footing on slick floors like tiles or hardwood. She'd do best with carpeted floors and either a single-floor home or an apartment with an elevator.

Annie is potty and crate trained, and while she's known to steal the odd sock, she doesn't exhibit any destructive behaviors when she's left alone for a few hours. She doesn't have a lot of obedience training because she's a bit nervous outdoors, but she's definitely food motivated, so a patient teacher will probably have some success teaching her in a quiet area.

What Annie mostly needs is a calm, quiet home with a patient guardian to help build up her confidence. Once she's settled in, she'll bloom into the most loving dog anyone could ever ask for.

If you’re interested in adopting Annie, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form

Annie’s adoption fee is $850.
