Meet Annie

Hi, my name is Annie! I am a former Texas girl and they called me Granny back in the day but my foster family did not think that suited me as I am too energetic and playful. I was picked up as a stray and was living on a property with a good Samaritan and the other rescued street dogs until I could get into rescue in Texas and finally to Wisconsin. Initially I had some skin issues and sores but those have all been taken care of. Next a had a whole lot of testing to make sure my organs were strong for a spay surgery. Initially there was concern over my blood clotting ability and kidneys but repeated testing over time has proven with proper nutrition my body was able to get back on track and into the normal zone. I was finally spayed In February and am looking for my forever family.

My foster family is home much of the time and it turns out, that is the best future for me. I love people and attention but especially like to see where foster mom is at all times. I have been around lots of dogs in Texas and in Wisconsin and I am very playful. I like to wrestle, run, and snuggle with other dogs. I have been around dogs and people of all sized but I don't seem to know my size and love to curl up on everyone, big and small, so that is something to watch out for. I like to sleep in a dog pile but will also go find my own spot if I am too squished.

I have been a really fun addition to my foster home. I can definitely run with my long legs and have plenty of energy left in me so a fenced yard would be very beneficial so i get my exercise in outdoors. I love to go outside throughout the day but will bark to come in. I am not as good at letting you know I want out so there were some accidents in the beginning but now mom takes me out whenever I get up from a nap or seem to be pacing about. I do like to nap plenty during the day as well and can curl up into surprisingly small spaces.

I am strong and pull ahead on a leash, so the kids in the family cannot walk me. We will be trying to switch to a gentle leader as I will pull on a collar until I sound raspy. I do love walking with the family and like to walk with mom so I know where she is. I am not as comfortable in the car though and try to sit on mom's lap when she drives. We are working on that as I am lanky and do not make an ideal window. I love food but with my height it is important not to leave food on the counter. I used to eat like every meal was my last and though I have settled down some, I still eat alone as I scarf what I have a look for more. I am currently on grain free fish based food and over the counter antihistamine as I was scratching my belly for a while. I am not anymore but no one really knows why so I'm not sure if I need to stay on those things. Initially I would try to grab paper or toilet paper to chew up, which is likely I sign that I was often hungry in my past. Now I love chewing on toys and bones and that also keeps me busy.

That's kind of the basics. I'm a pretty typical coonhound gal with plenty of goofy quirks that make me the loveable, long legged hound dog that I am. If you think I may be the hound you need, you can fill out the adoption application under the Adoption heading on our website www.bassetbuddiesrescue.org and a volunteer will reach out to you.
