Anna's Story
APPLICATION REQUIRED BEFORE AN ADOPTION CAN BE CONSIDERED

Meet Anna!

Anna has been waiting patiently for her chance at a forever home. She has spent the past six months in foster care getting healthy, raising her puppies, and receiving treatment for heartworms. She has been through a lot, and now that her puppies have found homes and Anna is healthy, it is finally her turn.

Anna's story began when a Suffolk resident contacted Animal Control about a wounded raccoon. When the officer arrived, two tiny puppies, only about 3–4 weeks old, came running out of the woods. Their mother, Anna, desperately tried to get to her babies but was too frightened to be caught. Animal Control set a humane trap, and Anna was safely captured and reunited with her puppies at the shelter.

Anna was a wonderful mother. Her puppies have now been adopted, and after months of care and heartworm treatment, Anna is ready to begin the next chapter of her life.

Anna is a very shy girl and will need time to adjust to a new home. Once she feels safe and comfortable, we believe she will make a loving and devoted companion. She may have been housetrained at one time, but she will need a refresher course with patience, consistency, and a predictable routine.

Anna would benefit from having another small, confident dog in her new home to help her feel more comfortable and show her the ropes. A calm canine companion may give her the reassurance she needs as she learns that she is safe.

A securely fenced yard is required, along with a no-slip collar for Anna's safety.

Anna has spent six months getting healthy and caring for her babies. Now she needs someone willing to give her the time and patience to become the confident little dog she was meant to be.

Adoption Requirements
Completed adoption application required
$210 adoption fee
Virtual or in-home visit
Veterinary reference
Securely fenced yard
No-slip collar
Another small dog is strongly recommended to help Anna build confidence

Suffolk Humane Society will contact applicants who have completed an application.
