Angus's Story

"You've given me a fighting chance, Ferdinand."- Angus from the movie Ferdinand

Not every big dog is meant to be bold. Some are meant to be gentle.
Angus is a 5 year old male neutered male Great Pyrenees who, much like Ferdinand, may look big and intimidating at first glance... but inside, he is soft, sensitive, and full of quiet love!
Angus came to us through no fault of his own when his owner had to go to a nursing home, and no one could take Angus permanently. The shelter is an overwhelming environment, especially for a dog whose life has been upturned this year, so he needs some time to fully adjust. He is a very sweet boy, but doesn’t like if strangers just rush at him. Patience is key to earning this big boy’s trust! Once you’ve shown him that you’re a friend, he becomes the biggest lover boy.
Angus lived the majority of his life outdoors, so he will need a grace period as he gets used to living inside. He has been around cats and kids before and did great with them, but please be careful that no children are grabbing at him until he has to get used to them!
When Angus first arrived, he was in desperate need of some grooming. His previous owner wasn’t able to maintain his coat, and he arrived to us very dirty with some severe matting. He had to be partially shaved down, so he looks a bit different from his usual look. Given time and the proper care, his fur will grow up to be long and luscious once more! In his new home, his owner will need to help care for his coat to make sure it stays in good condition.
Being an extra large breed, Angus is going to need a home with plenty of space for him. He will not make a good apartment dog, and he will need a fenced-in yard where he can safely explore.
Angus is not one who will run to your arms right away - but with time you will see him relax, trust, and choose you. Angus is up for adoption and ready to be back in a loving home. If you think he could be the pooch for you, stop by and meet him today!
