Andy's Story

Howdy! My name is Andy, and I am 1 years old. I am a goofy boy that loves to jump, explore my surroundings and confidently show off my good looks! I am a sweet boy that may be a little shy meeting you at first, but once I warm up (easy with treats), I like to stick around for some lovings!

I am here at the shelter because I was seized from my home with ten other dogs. While my past may not be the best, I am looking forward to a better future and I have lots of years left to start over! Due to my past housing situation, I do better with female dogs than I do with other males. And while staff cannot guarantee I am housetrained, I do a pretty good job of going potty outside!

Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive. This means that I was without heartworm prevention (please use flea/tick/heartworm prevention for your dogs!!!) and I contracted heartworm from a mosquito. This disease causes parasitic worms to live in my heart, lungs and blood vessels, and it can become fatal. DON'T WORRY! The shelter is starting the process of treating my heartworm, but it is a lengthy treatment process. I am able to be adopted, but my adoption will not be finalized until my treatment is done with, and I test negative for heartworms - think of it as a foster to adopt! The shelter wants to make sure I am happy and healthy before finalizing my adoption! During this time, this will require my adopter to keep me on exercise restrictions as lots of activity will cause the worms to do more damage. I will also be on daily pill that my adopters will need to feed me every day for 90 days. Then, I will need to be brought back and forth for my actual treatments starting in June! My heartworm treatment and any medication I need will be provided by the shelter! That is not any additional cost to my family.Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County's Adoption Policy
Out of county adopters are also welcomed. -------------------------------------------------------- The procedure for adopting one of our animals is as follows: You walk in, either by appointment or as a walk-in, and our adoption tech will take you to meet the pets. If any of the animals interest you, you can take them out of their cages and spend time with them in a cuddle room or take a walk outside with them (for dogs). Our staff will then answer any questions you may have, explain our trial adoption process to you (explained below) and help you decide if this pet is the perfect fit for your family! If you are adopting a dog and there is another dog in your home, we ask you to come back for an assisted meet and greet with your current pet! You then sign our contract and staff will approve of it before asking for your ID and method of payment. Once we have all of the information we need, you can take your pet home! It's that easy! We try to make the adoption process simple and enjoyable for you and your new pet. Please come in for a visit and give us a try! Trial Adoption: We highly recommend our trial adoption program where you pay for the pet up front (there is no extra fee for the trial) and then take it home for about 5-7 days (we are flexible with this) to see how it fits in with your lifestyle and other pets in the home. If everything works out, great, just call us and let us know you want to finalize and that is when you receive the microchip number and medical papers as well as a goody bag! If it doesn't work out, you bring the pet back and you will receive a full refund. Nursery Nanny Program: We also offer a nursery nanny program for our kittens! If you find one you like, you can take it home the same day even if it is not spayed/neutered yet. We ask that you bring it back for the kitten's spay/neuter date and if it needs to return for any vaccinations! We don't finalize the adoption until the kitten has been spayed/neutered and caught up on vaccines. ADOPTION FEES: $180 for puppies under 9 months, $150 for dogs up to 5 years, $75 for senior dogs, $105 for kittens under 9 months, $95 for adult cats up to 5 years and $65 for senior cats. Fees include: spay/neuter, microchip & registration, vaccines for the year, including the rabies vaccine, and flea & tick and heartworm preventatives
