Meet Amy-The Big Bang Litter

*****If you can see this post, Amy is still available*****
Amy came to us as a part of 2 different litters of puppies that were dumped together in a ditch. They were surrended to us at just four weeks old. They were in terrible shape and fighting several infections. It took lots of bottles, love and TLC but at about 3 months old, these guys recieved a clean bill of health from our vet.

Amy is shy at first, but once she warms up, she becomes quite the little shadow. She charmed the techs at the vet's office while there for her spay surgery, and they commented on what a sweetheart she was. She follows her foster mom all around the house, right on her heels, and like most herding breeds, she's happier when her "flock" is all in one room so she can keep an eye on them. She loves to snuggle and watch TV after a good game of tag or tug-of-war. She is great about only chewing on her toys and loves split elk antlers or the fake stick chews. She goes nuts for cookies, and likes to toss it around and hide it in her blanket before she eats it. She gets along with the all the other dogs in the home. She allows herself to be bossed around by the older dogs, but wants to be the boss of the little girls. The cat in her foster home thinks she's a dog and instigates play with the dogs, so Amy will need a dog tolerant cat. She doesn't like to share food, but this is very common in dogs that had to fend for themselves at some point. Its very easily managed by feeding meals alone in her crate. She knows basic commands and is working on her leash walking. She is not confident in new spaces and may do better if she has another dog to take cues from. She has never been around children, as there are none in her foster home, but we have seen nothing that makes us think there would be an issue. We do think because of her breed, size and strength, she would do best with older children.

Her brother's new family had a DNA test done. It came back with the predominate breeds as 27% Australian Cattle Dog, 17% Catahoula, 14% Boxer, 11% Labrador Retriever and 9% Briard.

Her dream family would be active, have a fenced in yard (though this is not a requirement) and have some prior dog experience. Herding dogs must have a job (walks, hikes, daily fetch sessions...), or they will find something to do on their own.

The adoption fee for these puppies is $350. This includes all vaccines (4 Distemper/Parvo, 2 Lepto, a Rabies, and a Bordetella), appropriate dewormings, microchipping and the spay/neuter surgery.

Hootie's Haven takes the responsibility of choosing forever homes for our dogs very seriously and always has the best interest of our dogs in mind. We reserve the right to deny an application for any reason and are not obligated to provide a reason. While this may seem unfair, we would hate to give someone hints about how to lie on an application for another rescue so that they were approved. For example, if someone stated that they had 47 dogs seized by animal control in the past, and we told them that was the reason they were denied, they would know to leave that off the application the next time. Most denials are not for such extreme reasons, but our board has decided to put this policy in place for this reason.

We also post updates on our Facebook page, so please make sure you have liked our page and are following it so that you will see the updates. You can also go to our page to see other pictures or videos of our dogs. https://www.facebook.com/hootieshaven
