Amitra's Story

Meet Amitra!

3 years old | 20 lbs | Female | Terrier mix | From Tijuana, Mexico

Amitra is a sweet, sensitive terrier mix who is slowly adjusting to life in the big city. At 20 pounds, she's the perfect medium-sized companion with a gentle spirit and a heart full of love for her people.

At home, Amitra is calm, quiet, and incredibly well behaved. She loves cozying up near her foster family, whether that's snoozing on the couch, relaxing in her bed, or chewing on her favorite bone. While she isn't a big cuddler, she prefers to sit close by and keep her people in sight. You'll often find her curled up against the arm of the couch with her head resting on her beloved bunny toy.

Amitra sleeps peacefully through the night and rarely barks. She has been mostly housetrained in her foster home and has done well using pee pads when needed while she continues learning her routine.

Like many dogs who are new to the city, Amitra is still building confidence with the outside world. She can be very fearful on walks and may shake or try to pull back toward home when outside. Loud sounds, busy streets, or unfamiliar people can make her feel overwhelmed, and she will sometimes cower or hide when startled. Because of this, going to the bathroom outside can be difficult for her when she's feeling tense.

Despite these challenges, Amitra has shown that with patience and encouragement she can make progress. On the occasions when she has been able to relax outside — especially during quiet nighttime walks — she absolutely loves the chance to sniff around and explore.

Amitra does fairly well in her crate during the day, though she may cry a little when her foster family leaves. The moment they return, she greets them with the sweetest tail wags, clearly happy to have her people back home.

Amitra would thrive in a quiet, patient home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. Because she lived with many other dogs at her rescue in Mexico, having a calm resident dog could be very beneficial for her and may help her feel more secure as she settles in.

Her foster family has not seen any aggression toward other dogs — only some nervousness — so slow introductions would be best.

Because sudden movements and loud noises can startle her, a home with calm, respectful children (or older kids) would be the best fit while she continues building her confidence.

Amitra is a gentle homebody who prefers cozy downtime over busy adventures. With the right patient family, she will continue to grow into the confident, loving companion she's meant to be.

Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention.

To apply to foster/foster-to-adopt to adopt Amitra, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.

Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.

Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
