Amaya in KY - Loves To Be With Her People's Story

Meet Amaya, a sweet Pyr who loves being with her people and is ready to find a family of her very own! Amaya is housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, and she knows “sit,” “down,” “come,” and “let’s go in.” She is generally calm and well-mannered inside, while outside she loves to run, chase her ball, and play with her foster brother. She is a happy, playful girl who has had lots of experience with other dogs. - Her foster home has 11 dogs ranging from 8 to 145 pounds! She gets along well with dogs, does especially well with males once she has time to warm up, and tends to prefer bigger dogs. Little dogs can be a bit too exciting for her.

Amaya is a little shy with new people and may need a few minutes to warm up, but she does well with reassurance from her person. She regularly visits dog-friendly stores with her foster mom and handles these outings nicely. She has been around older children and enjoys attention from her foster mom’s 15-year-old grandson. She can also see chickens without reacting to them. Amaya hardly ever barks, does not dig, and prefers being inside with her people. She can be nervous around loud noises and unfamiliar or unusual things, so a patient, reassuring family will help her feel secure.

Amaya loves car rides, squeaky toys, cheese, peanut butter, and especially having her ears rubbed and being petted. Her ideal home would be with a semi-active family and a quieter household, another dog to buddy up with, and possibly older children. Someone who is home more often than not would be wonderful for her, as she truly loves being with her people. She will need a secure 5-foot privacy fence, or can be a leash-walk-only dog. Amaya is a loving, gentle companion who simply wants to be near her family and share life with them!

NYS Registered Rescue # RR102
NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at

Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you.

Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
