Amara (Mary)'s Story

Hello! I would love a forever home! I enjoy playing with my squeaky & crinkly toys, running around the backyard, jumping, & flying through the air like a superhero. My foster mom made mazes out of Amazon boxes when I was little so I could find my way through to a treat. Now she stacks them so I can jump over them or just lets me have smaller boxes to toss and tumble until they fall apart & she throws them in the recycling bin. I am great at entertaining myself when she is busy but I look forward to playing and cuddling with her.

I especially like snuggling with my foster mom on our special couch. I really enjoy tummy rubs. I like those anywhere we happen to be. My foster mom says my eyes remind her of the stars in the night sky. She also says my fur is silky soft and she loves running her fingers through it. I don't mind it one bit and I let her pet me for as long as she wants. When the house quiets down, she turns off most of the lights, & gives me extra loves before she tells me it's time for bed. I know that means to go to my bed in my room and sleep for the night. I'm good about sleeping all night and even if I wake up before the rest of the house, I play quietly with my toys until someone comes for me.

Occasionally, I feel an urgent need to get outside before Mom has her coffee and will bark for her but I know she will have more time to play & pet me if I can wait.

I like being near my people and am always curious to see what they are doing. I am also really smart, I learn quickly, and I like to feel I have certain responsibilities around the house. I demonstrate by making it my job to bring any shoes left out to my foster. I've never chewed any of them to date. I just gently bring them to her, one by one. I'm extremely observant so I've made it my responsibility to bark at anything I see out of place to let my people know so they can check on it. It might be a vacuum cleaner or a broom that was left out or I might see a box that was delivered on the front porch.

Boxes are especially exciting and important. I get to play with empty boxes and after chewing up my cushioned dog bed, my foster also started making beds for me from the Amazon boxes. She makes them nice and cushy with old sheets and towels. I love when they are fresh out of the dryer and smell so nice. I still eventually pull the bedding out of the box and chew the box, but it's really cool because new boxes show up on our porch all the time. I'm sure one day I'll figure out why my doggie mom likes keeping her same cushioned bed all the time but for now, keep those boxes coming!
