Alpha's Story
Alpha is a beautiful and gentle dog that arrived to us from The Dominican Republic.

Her Mom was found on the streets along with Alpha and her littermates when they were newborns, by a tourist. That tourist went above and beyond in getting this family to safety and asked us to welcome them into our rescue at Mattie's Place.

We had to wait until the pups were 8 months old, so we could import them into Canada. Their Mom, Luna, arrived a few months ago.

Alpha was born in and around April 14, 2021, so she's currently 9 months old. She weighs in around the 30 pound mark and is quite small and very whippet shaped. We do not know her breeds and are only guessing. She should at full adult weight, be in and around 35-40 pounds. She could use some extra weight on her, for Canadian standards of care.

Alpha is a little unsure about other dogs and people she hasn't met, but the world around her is very new and she'll need time to get used to all the new smells and sights of dogs and people here in Canada. She has never had an issue with the many dogs she lived with in the DR, so we don't see any dog issue with proper introductions.

She's a really sensitive girl, and will do great with another canine companion, and is in foster care with cats and doing well.

A work from home scenario or take your dog to work would be best for Alpha, as she loves the company of humans.

She is crate trained and very comfortable with her crate. She is housetrained, but accidents can always happen in new spaces, so important that you're willing to do a bit more housetraining brush ups with her when adopting and not concerned with some accidents in the house.

Though she's getting used to the cold Canadian temperatures, she will be a great outdoor companion, as she's quite athletic and will do well running, hiking, and on excellent adventures, though she's also quite content hanging out and watching a movie with some big time snuggles.

She hasn't had access to professional training, so some puppy 101 classes would benefit her greatly.

If you're looking for the sweetest of dogs, Alpha is your girl. She's really everything puppy wonderful and she's going to make an incredible companion to her adopter.

FROM THE SENDING SHELTER:

Medium level of activity, very easy going, playful and very loving

----------------------
As of today, though our protocols could change tomorrow, we are still moving forward with adoptions. Our process has changed from some of the previous elements: We are a registered animal welfare organization, so we are deemed an essential service. All paperwork completed online, video home visits, meet and greets outside respecting social distancing, leashes/collars/supplies wiped down and disinfected (GermiCide 3 wipes), disinfectant on the dog prior to handoff (Aqueos wipes for dogs)

-----------------------
To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in his current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed.

Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, defleaing, vaccinations, food, nose to tail health exam, dog beds, toys, leash|collar, 6 months of preventative based on season and a DR microchip that will require registration here in Canada.
