Almanzo's Story

Almanzo’s owner got him from a rescue eight-years-ago - he was from a hoarding situation and was one of the puppies from an Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua litter. (The first photo is not current, but best shows his "body form.")

Due to a significant change in the number of hours away from home, Almanzo’s owner, who has had Almanzo since he was a puppy, has made the tough decision to re-home him so that he can receive the human companionship and attention that he deserves. His owner shared, “I want the person who adopts Almanzo to spend time with him, play with him, and make him a priority every day.” Since he loves being outside, she would also like a fenced yard for him to enjoy.

Almanzo, who is eight-years-old and weighs approximately twenty pounds, is a terrific little dog who is friendly, loves playing and attention, and wants to be where his people are. As indicated, he also loves being outside. He is currently over-weight and would benefit from a person who also enjoys the outdoors!

Although he has not lived with other dogs or children, he gets along with both when around them (and loves playing with other dogs as well as people). Almanzo has not been around cats.

Regarding house training, Almanzo is house trained to potty outside, but will use dog training pads when left for extended time-frames. He has been accident-free in his current home except for recently; his owner indicated, “Accidents are not frequent and have only started happening because I have been gone for long periods of time.”

Almanzo stays in the downstairs area of his home when left alone (he is not crate trained); is accustomed to being walked on-leash and only tends to pull if he wants to visit with a person or dog; travels well by car; and barks to communicate, but “not incessantly.”

If you are interested in welcoming Almanzo to your home, please contact Italian Greyhound Place.
