Alita's Story

Hi, my name is Alita! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Intelligent, active, sensitive, friendly
-Can Live with Kids: Alita has never lived with small children and can be sensitive to some handling. At this time, we are requiring calm and dog-savvy kids ages 12+.
-Can Live with Cats: Yes, Alita has lived with cats in the past and did just fine, according to her previous owner. Introductions should be slow and structured to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can Live with Dogs: May be okay with the right match. All initial introductions done at WHS to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks. Alita is a young, large breed dog who would do best with more space.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: May be required to attend one private lesson depending on adopter experience.
-Energy Level: Medium/high
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No
-Additional Information:
Alita is an active and intelligent young dog looking for a stable, loving home. This sweet girl has seen a lot of change recently - her owner passed away, after which she was driven up from California and ultimately surrendered to the shelter. Alita is used to living with one person and doing everything with them. She would be a great match for a single person or couple who have a flexible schedule and are looking for a loyal companion. Alita is understandably stressed with all her recent changes and would do best with someone who is dog-experienced and knows to take things slow and easy. At only about 2 years old, Alita still has lots of energy. She will need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep her occupied. Her perfect match is an active, outdoorsy person who wants to bring her along on their adventures.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
