Algers's Story

Meet our Alger! This gentle giant is just over a year old cropped and docked neutered, fawn male Doberman. When he came to Our Pet Project rescue he was banged up, starving and abandoned the day that metro Houston would have a hard freeze overnight. His team of angels went into action to make sure he would not freeze.

Alger is great with other dogs and children. He is very vocal and definitely tries to communicate as to what he wants. He is affectionate and lovey-dovie with all of the family members in his foster family pack, both human and furry. He is highly intelligent and a fast and eager learner. Alger is silly and goofy, a perfect example of the term Dober-dork. He loves puzzle games, stuffies, and getting loads of attention from his guardians. His foster mom has an two dogs and a cat as well as birds. Alger adjusted quickly to everyone in his foster home. He is crate trained, housebroken and knows his basic commands.
Alger will need a large yard and daily activities to siphon off all of his energy - both physical and mental.
Due to the fact that he has been through so much in his short life he will need several weeks of TLC with the rescue to make sure that he is healthy before he gets to go home. He should be ready to go home mid to late February.

Dobermans are known to be highly intelligent and fiercely loyal to their "family." They are often referred to as "velcro dogs" since they become highly attached and loyal to their owners. Alger is no exception to these traits!
If you are looking for a large, young, incredibly smart and loyal dog, look no further than our boy Alger.

*Large breed experience is required
*Doberman experience is preferred
