Alex's Story

Alex is a 5 year old little guy who we were told is a Bernedoodle. He is definitely a poodle-mix of some kind, but so far, nobody see the "berne" part of the description.

Alex lost his original home when his owners were deported. He went to a rescue that adopted him out to a very nice family. However, Alex now finds himself homeless again & this time it is entirely his own fault.

You see, Alex doesn't want a family! He wants one person who will be his & his alone. He simply could not handle the responsibility and turned into a little monster. He would bite the children & the father & considered Mom to be his personal property. Obviously this was not acceptable behavior. The family tried to return him to his original rescue, but they refused to accept him. They tried different trainers without any luck. Luckily their vet is the same as our rescue's vet & they redirected Alex to us.

While in foster care, Alex has been a perfect little gentleman. However, his foster mom is single & has almost no visitors. He gets along fine with the other dogs in his home, but is not interested in playing with them. He enjoys running the fence line with the neighbors dogs though - no physical contact. Alex also ignores the cats in his foster home. He has been well-behaved at the vet & the groomer both - actually, he is a little charmer. It seems to be just within his own home that Alex needs to have his person to himself.

So obviously, Alex is looking for a special home who will understand his quirks. Someone who lives alone and has few if any visitors. Someone who is home the majority of the time or would like to take him with them when they go out (he's a great car-rider/copilot). Someone who will be firm with him, so he can relax & just be a happy-go-lucky little guy without the stress of having to protect his human all the time. Any introverts out there looking for a new best friend?

Alex's adoption fee will be $200. Please shoot us a message if you think he would be a good match for your situation. We have told you all about his bad side, but believe us, his good side will make up for it.

Dearborn County Friends of Animals Inc.'s Adoption Policy
All foster animals are adopted to be inside pets only. Adopters must sign an adoption contract agreeing to be responsible pet owners and pay an adoption fee, which is generally $200 for dogs/puppies & $75 for cats/kittens. The foster dogs and cats are up-to-date on rabies and booster vaccines, wormed, checked for heartworm if over six months of age, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The adoption fee helps us recoup these costs so we can take in another homeless animal. They have been living in a home with one of our volunteers and, most likely, several other dogs and/or cats and are either housetrained or on their way to being housetrained. Local adoptions are arranged after conversation and agreement between the foster family and the potential adopter. We reserve the right to require a completed adoption application and/or to conduct a home visit and/or to require a vet reference. Adoptions out of our local area will require a vet reference and we re
