Alanis, although we've been calling her Maple for the last two years, is a sweet, roughly six year-old mini Australian Shepherd who has been with us as a foster for almost two years now. She came to me as a former mill mama who seemed to never have had any positive interactions with people. Because of that she's very timid around people and takes time to warm up, but her gentle nature shines through once she feels safe. She now comes when she's called and she'll come over and let us give her pets on the head. She is still very scared when someone picks her up and will often piddle and poo out of fear if you pick her up. That said, she's been to the vet and has done well with a patient veterinarian, she's been groomed and bathed several times, and has done okay there as well. She will thrive in a calm environment and would do best with a patient family who understands her need for reassurance and space.
