Alan's Story
Meet Alan — Your Big, Goofy, Gentle Best Friend in the Making

Alan recently arrived from West Virginia is getting ready to celebrate his second birthday on March 8, 2026! Still very much a puppy at heart, Alan is growing into a very big, lovable boy with an even bigger personality.

Alan is wonderfully sweet and thrives on pats, attention, and being nearby his people. He loves squeaky toys, running after balls, and investigating whatever interesting thing he finds around the house. Fetch is a work in progress (he’s excellent at the “chase” part, less so at the “return”), but he’s learning with enthusiasm and a wagging tail.

Leash manners are still developing, and like many tall, curious youngsters, Alan has discovered the magic of being the same height as countertops. Papers, bottles—if it’s within reach, he’ll help himself, usually because he wants attention or thinks he’s being funny. He responds well to gentle corrections and guidance, but he still has plenty of puppy energy and goofy charm.

Alan currently lives in a foster home with another male greyhound and gets along beautifully. Based on his temperament, he’s likely to do well with both male and female dogs. He has been described as cat-correctable. Alan would thrive in a home with a family that has a big heart, plenty of patience, and lots of back scratches and belly rubs to spare. He’d love a dog sibling to romp and play with, but likely would just as happily soak up all the attention as an only dog.

At his core, Alan is incredibly kind, people-focused, and eager to please. He loves going for walks, lounging in the sunshine, being outdoors, playing with every toy he can find, and—of course—eating. If you’re looking for a sweet, goofy companion who will grow with you, make you laugh daily, and love you endlessly, Alan may be your perfect match.

Alan is ready for his forever home. Could it be with you?

This dog is being fostered in the Cedar Rapids Area. We do not ship dogs. Adopters must be committed to meeting the dog in the area it is being fostered.

If you are interested in adopting or meeting this dog or any other of HGA's dogs, please fill out an online application found here: https://www.heartlandgreyhoundadoption.org/adoption-application/
We do not do meetings for dogs without an approved application.

The adoption fee for an HGA dog is $300.00. This fee pays for medical costs including spay/neuter surgery, shots, parasite treatments, teeth cleaning, microchip and microchip registration fee. Each dog also comes with a special sighthound collar and leash set and muzzle. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee.
