Akeela 's Story
*Calling all Akita lovers!
Meet Akeela aka Leela!

Akeela is a just under a year old, we think, American Akita and despite an unknown start is a wonderful, joyous, happy character.

Akeela was found back in October seemingly dropped off in the metroparks in Cleveland without a collar or microchip. The family who found her searched for her home, but told us no one came forward with proof she was theirs. Sadly, despite loving her, they couldn't add another large breed dog to their busy household.

She's been hanging out with her foster home learning the ropes of basic manners, crate training and house behavior, and walking on leash respectfully despite her massive size.

She is very typical adolescent Am. Akita. Coming off as happy go lucky, but serious when she needs to be. Deeply bonded to her favorite person, and full of silly antics and goofy expressions when she's relaxed and happy, especially her signature "but I'm cute?" Head tilt and squinty eyes.

Akeela is mid to high energy, with the ability to have an off switch but prone to some pretty impressive zoomies. She's still a but rude and demanding about attention, but with clear boundaries should learn the ropes well with new people.

Akeela would likely do alright with a canine sibling, but doesn't crave one. If someone has a dog and wants to consider her, it must be a home who has experience with American Akitas and understands her temperament. There reality is there is always a possibility that at proper maturity she may no longer if they have a clash of personality, especially with a female dog. Given her current attitude toward her Foster's dogs.

She is not currently a dog who purposefully starts fights, but has a strong dominant mindset and will bully more submissive dogs. She would butt heads with dogs of any size who do not respect boundaries, or were unfairly correcting her. She does very well with balanced and neutral dogs who are fair with corrections and body language, especially males. She would not be a candidate for unstructured doggy daycare or going to dog parks as part of her regular routine due to the unpredictable nature of these settings.

She shows interest but does not chase confident, dog savvy cats. She will perk up and consider chasing skittish and flighty cats, but can be redirected. She has shown interest in our parrot when he makes sound or talks, but largely ignores him when he is in his cage or on his perch.

She adores children of all ages, and while she's a bit of a bull in a china shop right now you can tell she tries to be careful around littles and doesn't mean to hip check them in her excitement.

She's very good in her ruffland crate and 4x4 kennel, though she does know how to open wire crates and requires locking carabiners on the door or she will set herself free.

She will destroy beds, blankets, and toys left in her crate if she is not properly enriched both mentally and physically. She is a VERY smart and active young dog who wants to learn and wants structure, activity, and play in her life.

She travels well in a ruffland in a car, and loooves to swim and to hike.

Our friends at K9 Guide have offered a discount board and train package through their facility for any adopter as well!

https://k9guide.com/

For additional information or an adoption application please email... kaleidoscopek9s@yahoo.com
