Afton's Story
Bonjour mesdames et messieurs! My name is Afton. I am a three-year-old, eleven-pound bichon frise with a lot of love, kisses, and cuddles! My demeanor is easy going and laid back. Favorite pastimes are lap sitting and napping near my human. I am fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.

Before coming to live with my foster mom, I had a rough life. Basics that puppies learn; I did not. Toys, walks with leashes, and house training are essentials I am now discovering. My foster mom is training me to use pee pads. She tells me I am getting better every day!

I need to keep my human in sight. If you leave the room, I will follow you. I will follow you, then settle down when you sit down. When I am separated from you, I will bark and whine – especially when you leave the house. Eventually, I will stop making noise and settle down. My foster’s neighbors say that they do not hear me when she leaves for work. I do not like being crated while you are home. I prefer to sleep with you. I am fine with being in my kennel. I fall asleep quickly and do not toss and turn, steal covers, or snore!

I am shy when meeting new people. I do LOVE laps, pets, and belly rubs! Do I get along with other dogs? Yes, if they are small dogs. Large dogs scare me. Cats? Yes, if they leave me alone. Children? I prefer older children at least eight-years-old. Baths, daily brushings, and snuggles are great! If it makes you happy, I will allow you to dress me up.

I am quite the charmer. My confidence and trust flourish when you give me love and patience. When the weather gets warmer, you will need to teach me how to take walks and potty outside. Riding in the backseat of the car is fun!

Are you looking for a small adult dog with a lot of love, snuggles, and kisses to share? How about a sweet girl who only has eyes for you? Then I am the dog for you. Adoption events stress me out. If you are interested in me, you need to complete an adoption application so my foster mom can contact you and we can meet.

If you're interested in Afton, please go to www.last-hope.org and fill out an adoption application.

Adoption Fee $500.00 (no checks)

If you have questions about Afton, please email cindykdaniels
@gmail.com with any questions.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home & truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption; discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, & 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
Last Hope, Inc. is an all volunteer, foster based, no kill rescue! You can see almost all of our dogs on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 11 am - 2 pm at Apple Valley Petco (7590 150th St W, Apple Valley, MN 55124)
Policies: You do not have to have a fence to adopt a dog from us, but some dogs will require a fence or acres to play, or an active family who will make sure the dog gets the exercise it needs to be happy. Some dogs do not have the temperament that will do well with young children.

The Adoption Fee is not enough to cover the vet bills. Sales tax of almost 7.25% is also included in the adoption fee that you see. Please consider donating to Last Hope to help us save these animals!

CAN YOU FOSTER? By taking a dog or puppies temporarily into your home and then coming to our adoption days to help find them homes, we can save more! If you’re interested, please email our office @ mail@last-hope.org and give us your contact information and what you would like to foster and someone will get back to you! You can also apply to be a foster home on our webpage! In the upper left hand corner there’s a drop down tab with the link for canine foster home. Just fill it out online & submit! We will get back to you as quick as we can.
