Adaline

Adaline, named after The Age of Adaline, is a cautious but active German Shorthaired Pointer who is figuring out what life as a house dog looks like. She’s a classic velcro GSP and wants to be wherever her people are. If you’re home, she’s nearby.<br/><br/>She does great in the car, enjoys investigating her surroundings, and is curious about everything going on in the house. Everyday noises like dishwashers and hair dryers are still surprising, but she’s handling them and learning as she goes.<br/><br/>Adaline is kennel trained and potty trained. When she first arrived, she tended to pace and do laps around the kitchen island, which isn’t uncommon for dogs adjusting to indoor life. Keeping her close on a leash indoors has helped her settle, and she now relaxes enough to curl up for a snuggly nap.<br/><br/>Personality and Behavior<br/><br/>Adaline is friendly and social with new people. She’s excited to meet visitors but does not jump or show any aggression. She may bark briefly if she hears noises outside but is not overly vocal.<br/><br/>She prefers not to go outside alone and is happiest when a human accompanies her. She goes potty and is ready to come right back inside.<br/><br/>She isn’t especially toy motivated but really enjoys food puzzles and licky mats. Mental stimulation goes a long way with her.<br/><br/>Training Notes<br/><br/>Adaline is still learning basic household manners. She does not reliably respond to verbal commands yet but will come to a whistle and is learning her name. She understands “no” and is improving with counter surfing, though she has jumped onto counters and can clear a baby gate if motivated.<br/><br/>She is not leash trained and currently pulls on walks, so a confident handler who is comfortable working on leash skills will be important.<br/><br/>Background<br/><br/>Adaline was rescued by the Council Bluffs Fire Department after falling through the ice in Lake Manawa. She is estimated to be about 4.5 years old. Her life before rescue is largely unknown.<br/><br/>Foster Home Experience<br/><br/>Adaline is being fostered in Lincoln, Nebraska and joined GPPR on January 26th. She has done very well with children ages 17, 15, and 8, as well as a resident 3-year-old GSP. She has shown no signs of aggression or resource guarding.<br/><br/>She is comfortable in a kennel and may whine briefly when first crated but settles quickly.<br/><br/>The Right Home<br/><br/>Adaline will thrive in a home that understands the GSP breed and is patient with a dog still learning how to live indoors. She needs structure, supervision, and continued training, but she offers loyalty, affection, and a strong desire to be with her people.
