Abby's Story

Please Welcome Abby to the House of Hope Family!

Sometimes the dogs who need us most are the ones who have already given a lifetime of love.

Abby is a 13-year-old, 80-pound Yellow Lab mix who recently lost her beloved mom. Abby had been with her family since she was just 3 months old, so shes understandably adjusting to a whole new life. But this sweet old girl has shown us just how resilient, loving, and adaptable she is.

Abby has settled into her foster home beautifully and is already showing everyone her wonderful personality. She is a total sweetheart who loves being with her people and has quickly chosen her foster mom as her new person. She happily follows her around wherever she goes.

And don't let that age fool you—Abby still has plenty of spunk! She LOVES going for walks and will even let you know when it's time to play fetch! She is house trained, leash trained, travels well, and is perfectly happy relaxing by your side. Her energy level is low, but when Abby decides it's time for a walk or a game of fetch, she's ready to go!

Abby is great with people and other dogs and will likely do well with children. Her history with cats is unknown, although we suspect she would probably be fine. She does not require a fenced yard and doesn't need to be crated.

Abby is heartworm negative and currently takes Carprofen, Gabapentin, and Cosequin to help keep her comfortable.

After 13 years with the family she loved, Abby deserves to spend her remaining years surrounded by love, comfort, patience, and someone who will cherish her as much as she deserves.

If you have room in your heart for a sweet senior who still has plenty of life and love left to give, Abby would love to meet you.

She doesn't need a perfect home—just a loving one.

Please consider giving Abby the forever family she deserves.

House of Hope Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
House of Hope Animal Rescue is foster-based. We are not a shelter and do not own a kennel where our dogs are kept. All of our dogs are in foster homes. Once your application is approved, your adoption coordinator will assist you in scheduling a date and time to meet dogs you are interested in at their foster homes. You must be willing to travel to the foster homes to meet potential dogs. Thanks for your understanding. APPLICATION PROCESS All potential adopters are required to complete an adoption application. That can be done online or you can download and complete then mail or email it to us. Once your application is received, we’ll call your references, including your Veterinarian. All of your pets must be current on vaccines and on preventatives.? Once all references are checked, we will get in touch with you to schedule a phone interview to go over your application and our adoption procedures. You may be contacted via email, so please keep an eye on your inbox, junk, and spam folders. Please know that we will reach out to you as soon as possible, but it can take up to 14 days depending on the volume of applications we are receiving. Please be patient with us.? After the phone interview we will set up a time for one of our volunteers to conduct a home visit. This is to ensure that your home is a safe environment for a dog and is the final step in the approval process.? Once your application is approved, you are ready to begin meeting dogs! Because we want each dog to go to the right forever home, it is not guaranteed that you will be approved for the dog for which you applied. In this case, we will work with you so that the right match is made for everyone involved. House of Hope spends a lot of time getting to know each dog so they can be placed with a family they are appropriate for as well as a family that is appropriate for them.?
