639 (2026) Athena's Story
Adoption Fee: $475

When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped!

What we know: Brother and sister duo transferred from Animal Rescue Friends of Floydada in Texas at approximately 5 months old. Pair came in as an owner surrender, no further information is known.

*Puppy 639 was diagnosed with mild entropion at her spay appointment. Because she was already under anesthesia, it was corrected in the same appointment. She has stitches around her eyes from this surgery and they'll remain in for another week.*

From the foster: Meet Athena

Athena is a 5-month-old Pit Bull Terrier mix with a gentle, thoughtful personality and a calm way of taking in the world.

She tends to be observant in new places and likes to take a moment before fully settling in. Once she gets her bearings, she relaxes nicely and becomes very affectionate with her people. She bonds closely and enjoys staying near those she trusts.

She came in with her brother and would do well in a home with other dogs. A confident, well-balanced dog companion would be a great fit for her. She takes cues from other dogs and seems to feel most at ease when she has a steady canine friend around. She would likely enjoy having siblings again in her next home.

Athena is absolutely wonderful with kids and naturally gentle with them. She is careful and respectful in her interactions and adjusts her energy appropriately.

She recently had eye surgery and handled it very well, recovering smoothly and continuing to show her sweet, steady personality.

She is still learning the puppy basics but very eager to please. Potty training is coming along very well, she is proud to show you how she can sit, and she does well in her crate. She may let you know when she's ready to get out, but she can comfortably settle in there for about 2-3 hours and sleeps quietly through the night. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys slow walks where she can stop, sniff, and take in her surroundings at her own pace.

At the park, Athena would much rather curl up in your lap than run around, choosing closeness and comfort over activity. She prefers staying right by her person and keeping things calm and simple, but she also gets bursts of playful energy here and there. She's still figuring out what to do with them, so they usually turn into a quick zoom followed by more sniffs.

She is very food motivated, especially enthusiastic about whipped cream, which makes training and new experiences easier and fun for her.

Athena is a sweet, easygoing young dog who thrives with calm companionship, structure, and ideally another confident dog in the home. Once she settles in, she's very affectionate and loves being close to her people.

If you're looking for a gentle companion who will stick close, settle in quickly, and happily be part of your everyday life, Athena is ready to meet you.

www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
