603 (2026) Mama Penny's Story
Adoption Fee: $475

When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped!

What we know: Mama dog (603, Penny - came with the name Saga) transferred with one puppy out of her litter of 9 from the Animal Services Center of Mesilla Valley in New Mexico. The family was found living under a trailer home when the puppies were very young. Other 8 puppies (numbers 660-668) came at a later date after URI symptoms cleared. First transferred puppy, Mabel (604) was found at the same location as mom and 8 other puppies at a later date and assumed to be hers as well.

From the foster: Mama Penny has been a joy to have in our home for the past 2 weeks. Found with her puppies under a home, we don't think she has been with a family much of her life. She is very timid, but quick to wag her tail once she meets each dog or person properly. Because she may have lived on the street a bit in her life, we don't believe anyone has spent time on potty training or training her on basic commands. We had a few accidents in our house in the first couple of days and she didn't understand any basic commands when we got her. Two weeks later, she is learning to sit, is a pro at using our doggy door, and hasn't had any accidents in the house. She is VERY treat motivated and is very smart. At 30 pounds, she is the perfect size dog for sharing your bed but has also mastered using a kennel in our bedroom as well. Again, knowing she will get a treat, she has gone from running away from the kennel, to walking right in and waiting for her treat. I take her to work with me daily and she has become very protective of me in a short time. Sharing space with our other two dogs has been great but she is a little possessive of her owner. She would do great as an only dog but can't be discounted to be part of a pack at her home as well. She merely needs to be taught to share her people. To say the least, we love her. Can you continue to love her for us? Please come meet her.

www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
