563 (2026) Birdie's Story
Adoption Fee: $475

When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped!

What we know: Litter of 10 puppies, originally part of a litter of 14, found at approximately 2 months old in Texas. While in the care of another rescue, the litter slowly began breaking with parvo and sadly 3 puppies ultimately passed away. One puppy was transferred to another rescue, while the remaining 10 puppies were transferred into our care at approximately 4.5-5 months old. Came with the name "Krissy".

* Puppy 563 was diagnosed with pigmentary keratitis. One of her eyes had become enlarged and, unfortunately, was not salvageable. To ensure her overall health and comfort, the eye was surgically removed. She has healed beautifully and is doing great now.*

From the foster: Warning: Birdie will become your best friend and shadow!

Birdie is a sweet one-eyed girl mastering the art of clumsily tripping over her own paws while following her foster humans absolutely everywhere. Bathroom? She's coming. Kitchen? Right behind you. Couch? Save her a spot.

She may only have one eye, but don't tell her that, it certainly doesn't slow her down. She's playful, curious, goofy, clumsy and full of love. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a few minutes, some love, and a couple head scratches and suddenly you're her favorite person in the world. Once she warms up, she's the happiest, cuddliest little pup who thinks humans are pretty much the greatest thing ever.

She loves other dogs, respectfully understands that cats deserve personal space, and is slowly figuring out that toys are actually VERY exciting. She can be a little timid around small kiddos at first, but with gentle patience she settles in beautifully and shows just how sweet and loving she really is.

She also does great in her crate, she only takes a few minutes to settle and then is out like a light, especially when she has a stuffed animal to snuggle with. Birdie does amazing on a leash. She doesn't pull, bark at other dogs or humans, and she only occasionally trips over her massive paws, but she's steadily working on growing into those. She's working extra hard on potty training and is already doing an amazing job letting her humans know when she needs to go outside she is such a smart girl! She's also almost mastered the art of sitting when told, especially if you have some sort of treat on hand.

The only thing missing now is a forever family to love her as much as she'll love them.

www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
