26Silk's Story

Meet 26-Queenie (aka Silk)

Poodle mix

Female

approx. 5 yrs old

approx. 10 lbs.

Kids: 14+

Dogs: prefers to be only dog

Cats: Unknown

Leash Trained: Yes

Queenie is a 5-year-old sweetheart who adores her people. She'd happily spend her days curled up beside you on the couch and her nights tucked into bed with her favorite human. A devoted companion, she loves affection and will gladly rest her head on your chest while you watch TV.

When Queenie arrived, it was clear she was used to having free rein of the house. She confidently claimed the couch and made herself right at home. If allowed, she'll happily lounge on furniture, so her future family should be prepared to continue reinforcing boundaries and household manners.

Queenie is a sensitive girl who responds best to gentle guidance and positive reinforcement. Loud voices or harsh corrections can intimidate her. Early on, a stern "off" frightened her enough to freeze and have a submissive accident. She has had other accidents when meeting larger people with deep voices, too. I have found that using a diaper in new or unpredictable situations helped prevent submissive leaks while she adjusted. Queenie thrives with patience, kindness, and consistency.

She lets you know when its time to go with barks (o do not have a doggie door). However, do not wait for too many barks go by and then try to rush...she will accidentally and unintentionally leak. Consistency is key.

While generally easygoing, she has shown some possessive behavior around favorite sleeping spots and close access to her humans. She will express herself with a warning. Because of this, she may do best as an only dog or with a calm, non-dominant canine companion. Adopters with other dogs especially confident females should plan for careful introductions and management.

Queenie is not a fan of the crate and would much rather be with her people. She craves companionship and wants to be included in daily life. She doesnt love getting into a car, but is a good car campanion. The doggie park appears to be fairly new to her, and she is learning the ropes with a great attitude. She has been great and walks, too!

If you're looking for a loyal shadow, a professional cuddler, and a dog who will love her people wholeheartedly, Queenie may be the perfect addition to your family. She needs a home that appreciates her sensitive nature, uses gentle handling, and offers a little patience while she learns the rules of her new kingdom.

If interested, we recommend submitting an adoption application at: www.foothilldogrescue.org

This dog will be available at Saturdays adoption event at our rescue. Meet and greets are 11:00 - 1:00.

Our address is:

4131 S Shingle Rd suite 14
Shingle Springs, CA

Please bring all resident dogs and children that live in the household to the meet and greet.

Our adult dog adoption fee is $350 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card) and fee for pups under 4 months old is $400 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card).
